Opportunities to Serve – 2016
Explanation of Current Ministries
INVITING PEOPLE
Organize name tags. Be responsible for keeping name tag
stand orderly, scheduled for a month at a time.
Take photos. With your camera or Church’s at your
convenience.
Mentor new members. Assist new members to become
familiar with Ebenezer.
Organize Kidz Bagz. At your convenience. Scheduled for a
week each month.
Greeter/Door Opener. Greeters stand at entrance, open
doors and greet everyone. They are scheduled for one service. Can
choose early, late, or midweek services.
Welcomer/roamer. Welcomers watch for guests and help
them feel at home. They are scheduled for a month at a time. Can
choose early or late service.
INVOLVING PEOPLE
Help with small group ministry (“Unwrapping our Gifts”,
etc.). Be a co-leader, dates to be scheduled.
Develop member skills inventory. Assist with computerbased member information.
INSPIRING PEOPLE
Gospel Singers. (Sunday morning rehearsal) Sing 3 or 4 part
music monthly at various services.
Simple Song Singers. (pre-service rehearsal) Sing 1 part
music with a CD.
CD Choir. (self rehearse) Sing 3 part music to CD at various
services several times a year.
Handbell Choir. (Tuesday evening rehearsal) No special
musical talents needed, plays at various services.
Other special talents. Solos, ensembles, instrumental,
readings, etc. scheduled at your convenience.
Drama/Dance Presentations scheduled at your convenience.
Liturgist. Read liturgy and scripture at a Worship service. Can
choose early, late or midweek services.
Usher at a Worship service. Can choose early, late or midweek
services.
Child Care. Care for children in Child Care area during
Worship service. Can choose early or late service.
Altar Guild Prepare altar for Worship. Scheduled for two
months during the year.
Sewing banners, etc. at your convenience.
AV Setup: Create ProPresenter presentations on AV church
computer or remotely from home.
AV Operator: Operate sound board and AV computer during
services utilizing prepared presentations. Setup extra microphones
if needed.
Communion clean-up. Collect and clean Communion cups
following services. Scheduled for 5-6 services per year.
Deliver children’s sermons, at your convenience.
Worship Planning Team. Work with Pastors to prepare and
participate in special Worship services.
Worship Deacons. Assist with various functions before/after
services, including opening/closing building, work with ushers, count
offering.
Communion Stewards. Prepare for and assist with serving
communion at the appropriate services. Frequency depends on
number of stewards available.
EDUCATING PEOPLE
Workshop Rotation Model Sunday School. WRM
Sunday School meets Sunday mornings between Labor Day and
Memorial Day, 9-10:15am. Workshop Leader. Prepare and
lead 1 workshop lesson to 4 different groups of children, 1 group
per week during a 4-week rotation. Lessons are provided,
supplies, if any, can be reimbursed. Shepherd. Lead children to
their workshop, take attendance, assist children and workshop
leader as needed. No preparation required. A/V Operator.
Assist with audio/visual needs during Sunday or special events.
Picture Taker, take pictures during WRM classes or special
events.
Vacation Bible School. VBS meets the last week in July,
Sunday through Thursday 5:15-8pm. Workshop Leader.
Prepare and lead 5 workshop lessons; 1 lesson to 4-5 groups of
children per night during the 5-night VBS program. Lessons are
provided, supplies, if any, can be reimbursed. Crew Leader.
Rotate with 1 group of children through multiple workshops per
night during the 5-night VBS program. Lead the children to the
various workshops, assist children and workshop leader as needed.
No preparation required. Kitchen Help. Organize, or help
prepare and serve nightly meals during the 5-night VBS program.
A/V Operator. Assist with audio/visual needs during VBS.
Picture Taker, take pictures during VBS.
Jr./Sr. Youth Sunday School. Prepare and lead or assist
with Jr./Sr. Sunday School classes. A number of different topics are
discussed. Work with a group of other interested adults. Jr./Sr.
Sunday School meets Sunday mornings between Labor Day and
Memorial Day, 9:15-10:15 am.
Adult Sunday School. Prepare and lead or assist with classes.
This program is not currently active. Looking for interested leaders
and participants!
Confirmation Mentor. Partner with a confirmation student
during the 2-year program. Join students on monthly Action Nights
between September and April. Work in teams to design a biannual worship service.
Bible Study. Lead OR participate in weekly Bible study. The
scriptures from the Old and New Testaments, Gospel, and Psalms
for the following Sunday service are read and discussed, with a
stimulating study guide. Meets Wednesday mornings, 9-10 am.
EQUIPPING PEOPLE
Fall stewardship campaign. Assist in Stewardship campaign.
Special fundraising project. Assist with special fundraising
projects.
Church & parsonage painting projects. Assist in painting
projects, at your convenience.
Mow Church field lawn. Using riding mower, join group of
volunteers to mow the field.
General Church/parsonage repairs. When needed.
Church finances. Assist Finance team with financial matters
of Church. Scheduled as needed.
Count contributions Mondays or Fridays. With another
member, count contributions in Church office on Mondays or
Fridays. Scheduled 1-2 times a month.
Audit church books. Audit Church accounts as needed.
Help in office. Assist with various office tasks as needed.
Computer experience not required.
Heating, Ventilating, & Air Conditioning projects. As
needed.
Small Construction projects. Assist small construction
projects such as outbuildings or other construction.
Gardening. Mulch, weed, trim, & water plants. Your schedule,
as needed.
Sidewalk Snow removal. Assist with clearing off sidewalks
and walkways around the church.
EMBRACING PEOPLE
Fellowship activities. Lead and/or participate in various
fellowship activities as scheduled.
Mission outreach projects. Participate in various mission
activities as scheduled.
4th of July Parade Float. Help plan and construct float for July
4th Parade.
Deliver food to food pantry. Deliver food contributed at
Ebenezer to one of two local food pantries. Deliveries made
monthly, sign up as desired.
Provide rides to Church. Provide transportation to Church
as needed. Names will be provided.
Prepare Love Meals. Help prepare meals for members or the
community, as scheduled.
Help prepare or serve funeral lunches. Help prepare and
serve lunches for funerals at Church, as needed.
Help plan annual picnic. Help plan and/or assist at annual
Church picnic.
Prayer Shawl Ministry. Assist in creating prayer shawls for
distributing to those being remembered in prayer. No schedule.
Help plan camping event. Help plan annual camping event
on Church grounds.
Help deliver Meals on Wheels. Deliver, with another
volunteer, Meals on Wheels meal to homebound at noon, 2-3
times a month.
Help Host Comma Café. Assist in serving snacks during
Comma Café, between services or after service in summer. You will
be assigned a date.
Laundry Love. Assist in laundry ministry to patrons identified
by local social service agencies at local laundromat monthly.
Host ice cream “Sundaes on Thursdays.” Buy and serve
ice cream following Thursday night services. You will be assigned a
date or can sign up.
Help with JEP activities (Jefferson/ Ebenezer
Partnership). Assist with ministry that provides books, supplies,
and birthday bags to students at Jefferson Elementary school.
Gardening Project for Meals on Wheels. Help maintain
garden on the church property to provide food for Meals on
Wheels.
Visit shut-ins. Visit our homebound members. Schedules will be
based off of availability.
GROUPS MEETING ON A REGULAR BASIS
Men’s Breakfast Club. (2nd & 4th Tuesdays at 8:30 am)
E.C.J. Women’s Circle. (monthly, Monday mornings) Make
quilts for newly baptized babies.
Scrapbookers. Work on your own scrapbooks with others .
Times scheduled during the year. Sign up on clipboard under
bulletin board.
Cardmakers. Meet several times during the year to make
greeting cards. Materials available or bring your own. Sign up on
clipboard under bulletin board.
OTHER MINISTRIES
Ebenezer United Church of Christ is ministry focused. If you
have any other activities or ministries that you would like to
see Ebenezer participate in, please bring to the attention of
Steve Shircel, Involve Ministry Coordinator, who will assist
you in getting started.
