Since I will also be getting my ESL endorsement, I will have to take that test and pass. 2. What options do you have for student teaching at your chosen college/university? Do they allow you to student teach internationally, in urban or rural areas, or in non-public school? How long will you have to student teach? What other requirements must be met during the semester you student teach? I will be placed with a school that is close to where I live and the university will find my placement for me. So since I live in Wheaton, they will find a school somewhere near Wheaton, which is suburban. I will have to student teach 8 weeks in an elementary education classroom and then another 8 weeks in a special education classroom. Part Five: Licensure Please answer the questions below. 1. Which content test will you need to take for your desired major? I will have to take Elementary Education (containing literacy and math components), Elementary Literacy, Elementary Mathematics, and a Special Education content test. 2. In your own words describe the edTPA process. What will you be required to do to complete this portion of your license requirement? How are you assessed and what can you do if you are unsuccessful the first time? The edTPA process is a process in which someone who wants to be a teacher is assessed based on their student teaching and other forms of work. We are required to submit a video of our student teaching and a portfolio of our work demonstrating our competence as a teacher. If you were to fail the edTPA, you are allowed to retake the whole thing or just parts of it that were inadequate. 3. How do you apply for licensure? (Be specific) First you have to pass a series of tests and to figure out exactly what tests you need to take, you are advised to speak with your college advisor or licensure officer. Once you pass the tests you will need to complete an approved Illinois educator preparation program. Once that is complete the Illinois institution will notify ISBE through ELIS that you are qualified for a license. This is called entitlement. Once everything is communicated from the university to ISBE, your ELIS homepage will have a badge on it and when you click on the badge you will be able to apply for your license and be able to pay the fee.
