First of all welcome to Sociology. I hope this pack provides you with a little insight
into the subject and some prior understanding to help your smooth transition into the
subject are and sixth form life.
Sociology is a popular choice among students, it involves the study the social world,
but often in ways you have never considered before. Before you have even opened
a sociology textbook you will already have acquired some knowledge of society.
The subject requires open minds, critical thinkers, excellent organisation skills, and
independent study. The subject is constantly updating and as well as looking at 19th
century sociologists, it also uses up to date studies and issues that affect us in our
everyday lives today.
Sociology involves looking at the social world from 4 different perspectives;
Marxism, Functionalism, Feminist and Social Action.
Activities
You are required to access Quizlet to complete the following tasks. You should
make written notes or print out and match up the flashcards and bring them with you
to the first lesson in September. Click on the “scatter” tab to practise matching the
