diversity for a new generation of family leaders that reflects the growing diverse populations within states
and our nation, while building SAO state level leadership and advocacy.
Polly Arango, beloved mother, friend and founder of Family Voices, was a passionate advocate for
children with special health care needs and their families. Polly served as the first Family Voices
Executive Director, which now has active chapters across the country. Polly’s vision included developing
leadership among families of cultural diversity and richness. She cultivated new leaders and envisioned
the leadership of Family Voices at the state and national leadership to reflect the color and diversity of our
nation.
Polly’s vision for a nationwide, empowered and vocal voice of families includes the voices of families with
cultural and linguistic diversity. Leadership development through mentoring was one of Polly’s longstanding passions. To establish a lasting memorial to Polly, Family Voices will use funds from the Polly
Arango Memorial Fund to establish a mentoring program. The mentoring program will support the growth
of the Family Voices organization through the development and support of emerging family leaders with
cultural and linguistic diversity.
