Almond Average User Rating Demeter’s Almond perfectly captures the lightly toasted, sweet fullness of the California almond. Experience and enjoy it, when and where you like. Aloe Vera Average User Rating Add To Wish List If a green scent could murmur and purr, this one would. Aloe Vera is a light, almost transparent green fragrance, with a unique Aloe Vera twist that cannot easily be explained in words. Extracts from Aloe are widely used in cosmetics and alternative medicine, being marketed as variously having rejuvenating, healing, or soothing properties. There is, however, little scientific evidence of the effectiveness or safety of Aloe Vera extracts for either cosmetic or medicinal purposes. But it smells great, and for us, that is more than enough. Amber Average User Rating Add To Wish List A Legendary Scent. Envelop yourself in our version of this exotic and alluring scent. Since antiquity, amber has been a valued perfume ingredient. Labeled an aphrodisiac with mystical powers, this warm, rich, honey-like scent is gently dusted with earth and sensual oriental hints. Clean and aromatic, it evokes the subtle, spicy warmth of twilight. Angel Food Average User Rating Add To Wish List How many angels can dine on this food? Many apparently. It is one of our broadest appeal scents. Ah.....vanilla, sugar....how can you miss. (By the way we've heard from quite a few customers that they feel just edible when wearing our Angel Food. Good date material? Write in and let us know.) No one is completely sure of the origin of Angel Food or angel cake, although we know it surfaces first in America, and in the 1880's. Most culinary historians think Angel Food is a takeoff of the sponge cake and the cornstarch cake, and that it originated in southeastern Pennsylvania The critical ingredients reflected in Demeter's Angel Food are egg whites, sugar, vanilla and coconut. The coconut is our own special touch, from a generations old Pennsylvania recipe, passed down through the family of our founding perfumer. It tastes as good as it smells, and it smells great! Apple Blossom Average User Rating Add To Wish List Close your eyes. Take a whiff. Breathe in these Feminine and Irresistible Aromas. Experience Demeter's Apple Blossom, a warm, delicate floral scent with just a hint of sweet apple. The apple tree is so ubiquitous in America, in legend, lore and our daily lives that we hardly slow down to take notice. At Demeter, a big part of our job is to notice and capture those everyday scents, like Apple Blossom, for your olfactory pleasure. Apple Pie Average User Rating Add To Wish List As American as Apple Pie! How many times has that phrase been uttered? Is it true? Well, yes and no. Not to upset the Founding Fathers, but Apple Pie, like most American customs and traditions, is European in origin. Indeed, pies were especially popular during the reign of Elizabeth I. Demeter’s Apple Pie is a medley of Granny Smith apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and flaky pastry. April Signature Scent 1 oz Set Average User Rating Add To Wish List Developed by Demeter’s CEO, the second of our Signature Scent Set series features the beautiful scents of Spring, including Cherry Blossom, New Leaf and Rain. April is about the rains that bring the emergence of new life. We reap the benefit in May’s flowers, but for me, April is about the beginnings, whereas May is the end result. This blend tries to capture that sense of fresh, if uncertain beginnings that April represents to me. - Mark D. Crames, CEO Demeter Fragrance Library These scents were chosen because they can be worn singly or combined in various proportions to create a completely new and original fragrance. Demeter fragrances are linear, which means they express their nature immediately, and do not change over time. This quality means Demeter scents can be worn singly, or blended directly on the skin to create your own Signature Scent. These are fragrances that are assured to work well together, so all you have to do is figure out what proportions and sequence you like for your personal Signature Scent. BLENDING TIPS: • Experiment with different proportions • The order you apply the fragrances to the skin will affect the final result Here is one suggestion, to begin creating your own Signature Scent. CEO BLEND APRIL 2015 April’s Showers bring forth new life. All those early spring elements are included in this blend. 2 Sprays of: Cherry Blossom: Soft and sheer 1 Spray of: New Leaf: Fresh and green 3 Sprays of: Rain: The cleanest and most delicate of all Demeter fragrances Baby Powder Average User Rating Add To Wish List As clean and as fresh as it gets, just like the proverbial freshly powdered baby's behind. But nothing ever comes to be exactly as you expect it to. The Johnson & Johnson Company was a leader in antiseptic medicinal plasters in the 1880's. In the 1890's, the Company started shipping Italian talc with their plasters, to reduce irritation. Soon customers were asking for more talc, and shortly thereafter, that scented talc was being sold as baby powder, creating the link in our minds between the scent of baby powder and fresh cleanliness. It is that fresh scent that is the inspiration for Demeter's Baby Powder. Badtz Maru Average User Rating Add To Wish List As his April 1st birthday would suggest, Badtz-Maru is one mischievous little penguin, attracting lots of attention as he walks his pet alligator, Pochi. Reflecting that sense of mischief, we used a unique combination of unsweetened pineapple, cranberry, raspberry and honeydew melon when creating this scent Baihao Yinzhen Tea Average User Rating Add To Wish List Baihao Yinzhen is a deeper, green scent with heavier wood notes complimented by lighter citrus tones. It is more complex, masculine and deeper that it's Silvery Tip cousin. Scholars and tea merchants generally disagree as to when the first production of white tea (as it is understood in China today) began. What is today known as white tea may have come into creation in the last two centuries. Of all kinds of teas, white tea contains the most antioxidants. The particular amount and ratio of the polyphenol compounds found in tea varies widely from one type to another, due to the variation between strains of Camellia sinensis, as well as the preparation process itself. These polyphenol compounds have been shown to protect against certain types of cancer. Bamboo Average User Rating Add To Wish List Sweet, fresh...light, green... Bamboo regenerates itself eternally. The life span of a single bamboo is not very long-about 20 years-but the grove stands forever. The fully mature bamboo sends most of the organic nutrients prepared by its leaves down through paths in the vascular bundles, which run vertically down the culms, to its rhizomes, which form the vast, complicated underground network that creates its progeny. New bamboo shoots are produced every year from these rhizomes, ensuring the survival of the bamboo grove. It is from the new, smaller shoots of the bamboo plant, very green with a lightly fruity tone, that the delicate green scent of Demeter's Bamboo Pick-Me-Up cologne is derived. Banana Flambee Average User Rating Add To Wish List Banana, liquor, sugar: What could be better? Barbados Cherry Average User Rating Add To Wish List Delicate and soft, Demeter's Barbados Cherry scent is a juicy burst of flavor that is both sweet and tart at the same time. Say “Hello” to the polar opposite of Maraschino Cherry. A beautiful and colorful native shrub with small pink and white flowers that bloom in spring, late summer and fall, The Barbados Cherry plant produces an abundance of red cherry-plum like fruit. It is the richest of all fruits for their vitamin C Basil Average User Rating Add To Wish List Sweet summer basil. Spicy, green, refreshing...everything a summer day could be asked for... It's not commonly known that basil originated in India. It was brought to the Mediterranean via the spice routes in ancient times. Basil spread to other parts of Asia, and became popular in the use of curries in Thailand, and in Italian cuisine. In Romania, basil took a more romantic turn; when a man accepts a sprig of basil from a woman, he is officially engaged. The Greek word for basil means royal or kingly. It was believed that only the king himself should harvest this herb, and only with the use of a golden sickle. No matter what the country the consensus is that basil is Royalty amongst the herb family. Demeter's Basil Pick-Me-Up cologne is made from essential oil distilled from sweet basil, the kind most commonly grown in herb garden and used in cooking-a fragrant and unforgettable scent. Beeswax Average User Rating Add To Wish List The intoxicating scent of wax, honey and flower pollens is an irresistible call to the good life. Beeswax creates powerful memories of hot summer days and the freshest air imaginable, outdoors and far away from the urban sprawl. Breathe Deeply. Relax. Repeat. Beetroot Average User Rating Add To Wish List Beetroot is one of our favorite scents to wear. On the skin it gives the wearer a sense of the dirt it just came from, and the beautiful rouge-sweet juice within. Red beets as we now know them probably didn't develop until the 17th century--but they have been eaten as wild, slender-rooted plant species with edible leaves over a broad sweep of land, from Britain to Indian, since prehistoric times. Early Russian homeopaths claimed it could cure tuberculosis, scurvy, and toothache--while Russian peasants believed it worked as an insecticide. During "babye leto" (Indian summer), they would bury beets imbedded with mosquitoes and flies in a ceremony meant to relieve them of insect bites. Ironically, Russian beauties--both peasants and ladies in high society--used the beet as rouge for their cheeks...to keep away mosquitoes and attract the opposite sex. While at Demeter we promise neither of those results, we do promise a wonderful sweet and fresh, yet slightly earthy, scent Between The Sheets Average User Rating Add To Wish List The name says it all! An exotic and alluring blend of mango, guava, passion fruit, orange liquor, lemon juice and rum, irresistible to anyone who experiences it. The Between the Sheets Cocktail was born during Prohibition in the 1920’s. A speakeasy was the only place to get a decent drink, and no respectable Flapper would be seen without her flask neatly tied to her leg. Most cocktails only masked the taste of inferior booze, so fruit juices became the standard mixers for just this purpose Bird of Paradise Average User Rating Add To Wish List The bird-of-paradise flower is actually a large tropical herb (Strelitzia reginae) of the family Musaceae (banana family), native to South Africa, with it's large blossoms resembling an exotic bird. Our Bird of Paradise captures perfectly the warm, fresh and invigorating green scent of the living flower in the wilds of the Hawaiian Islands; a scent that cannot be adequately described, but must be experienced Birthday Cake Average User Rating Add To Wish List The sweetest kind of cake? Why not? A rodeo on the top? Ballerinas? Roses? Your choice. Evidence of birthday observances dates back before the rise of Christianity. In pagan cultures, people feared evil spirits - especially on their birthdays. It was a common belief that evil spirits were more dangerous to a person when he or she experienced a change in their daily life, such as turning a year older. As a result, birthdays were merry occasions celebrated with family and friends, who surrounded the person of honor with laughter and joy in order to protect them from evil. Instead of gifts, most guests brought positive thoughts and happy wishes for the upcoming year. However, if well-wishers did bring gifts, it was considered an especially good influence for the birthday person. The world's largest birthday cake was created in 1989 for the 100th Birthday of the city of Fort Payne, Alabama. The cake weighed 128,238 pounds, 8 oz. and used 16,209 pounds of icing. We could not find what this particular cake was made of, but we can tell you what goes into Demeter's Birthday Cake Pick-Me-Up colognechocolate cake with butter cream icing and pink icing flowers. Black Bamboo Average User Rating Add To Wish List Black Bamboo is a passionate blend of bamboo shoots paired with aromatic greens, with added touches of ginger. A deep, mellow and exotic scent that is truly unisex Black Ginger Average User Rating Add To Wish List Black Ginger is a rare variation on Ginger with black leaves so shiny and smooth that they appear lacquered. Demeter's Black Ginger is an invigorating spicy ginger scent, with touches of eastern spice and ginger flowers. It is unique and unusual, in a manner that is classically Demeter. Black Pepper Average User Rating Add To Wish List Luxurious, subtle and mysterious, like the peppercorns themselves, Black Pepper is both intoxicatingly fragrant and sensual. Black pepper's pungent bite comes from the alkaloids - piperine and piperidine, combined with resins found mostly in the seeds. Its aromatic, slightly musty odor comes from the volatile oils found largely in the flesh and skin. These are the oils that go into creating this elegant Black Pepper scent Black Russian Average User Rating Add To Wish List A sharp and sexy combination of coffee liquor and vodka, Demeter's Black Russian is the personification of night itself, an excellent balance of the bitterness of the coffee scent with the sweetness of the liquor. Black Russian is the first fragrance to be launched as part of the new Happy Hour Collection from Demeter Fragrance Library, consisting of scents inspired by our favorite cocktails, from old standbys to the unique and unusual Blackberry Pie Average User Rating Add To Wish List A light, sheer fruit and citrus fragrance with unusual body and depth. The depth comes from the wild blackberry, which is the center of this fragrance, supported by peach and topped with lemon. It is unusual to center a fragrance around blackberry, and that unique perspective is both apparent and well served in this one-of-a-kind scent Blueberry Average User Rating Add To Wish List An enticing and wearable mixture inspired by the deep fruit juice extract of the blueberry. This is a truly an American scent. Held in very high esteem by the American Indian, the wild blueberry forms a five-point star that the "Great Spirit" sent to relieve hunger. Indians also used blueberries for medicinal purposes and made a strong aromatic blueberry tea from the root. Drying blueberries, then turning them into a pulp after which they were combined with cornmeal, honey, and water, made a blueberry pudding called “Sautauthig”. Nothing is more quintessentially American than the Blueberry. Not surprisingly North America is the world's largest blueberry producer accounting for nearly 90% of world production at any particular time Bonfire Average User Rating Add To Wish List The best part about the beginning of November in Britain is the fact that no sooner have we finished trick or treating then we have to start preparing for Bonfire Night. Bonfire Night can be traced directly to events that occurred around the beginning of November in 1605, known as The Gunpowder Plot, an attempt to overthrow the government of King James and the Church of England. It was on the 5th November 1605 that our (anti-) hero Guy Fawkes was caught red handed in the cellars of the Houses of Parliament with several barrels of gunpowder (according to sources, the actual number varies between 20 and 36; suffice to say, it was enough!). Mr. Fawkes and his fellow were tried as traitors and executed. Our version of Bonfire has a decidedly American, point of view. We remember a less complicated and less regulated time, when we would rake the fallen, dried maple leaves from the lawn into large piles, which our fathers would burn, making the bonfires of our youth. It is that smell of burning maple leaves that is the heart of our Bonfire cologne. What recollections does it raise for you? Bourbon Average User Rating Add To Wish List Demeter's Bourbon is a rich bourbon bouquet of smoky spice and the full sweet flavor of burnt caramel and oaky vanilla. Bourbon is truly American scent. Many Bourbon makers can trace their heritage to when Daniel Boone led the first party of settlers over the Appalachians into the Ohio River Valley. "In those days," says Bill Samuels of Markers Mark, a history buff who revels in the telling of Bourbon lore, "distilling was an adjunct to farming. Whiskey was a heck of lot easier to transport to market than corn, wheat, or rye. Every farmer had a still, and a barrel of whiskey was a kind of currency that could be traded for goods, livestock, or even land." Brownie Average User Rating Add To Wish List OK Mom, I still need you for something... The name comes from the deep-brown color of the cookie. The first known published recipe for "brownies" appeared in the Sears, Roebuck Catalogue in 1897. It was created when a careless cook failed to add baking powder to a chocolate-cake batter (the dense, fudgy squares had been made for some time by women who received the recipe by word of mouth). Our version is rich, deep, and of course, chocolaty, based on memories of those special afternoons when we would come home from school to find that grandma had been baking. These days, however, the most important part of the experience is that Demeter Brownie is NO-CAL. Bubble Gum Average User Rating Add To Wish List In 1906, Frank Fleer invented the first bubble gum called Blibber-Blubber gum. However, the bubble blowing chew was never sold. In 1928, an employee of the Frank H. Fleer Company, Walter Diemer invented the successful pink colored Double Bubble, bubble gum. It was after World War II ended that Topps developed its Bazooka Bubble Gum product in Brooklyn, New York. It was named after the humorous musical instrument which entertainer Bob Burns had fashioned from two gas pipes and a funnel in the 1930s. (This contraption also gave its name to the armor-piercing weapon developed during the War.) Bazooka, with its distinctive name, taste, and red, white and blue logo and packaging, soon became a familiar part of Americana. As a matter of fact, a psychological study of tastes and smells that bring back memories found that one of the most frequently identified items was Bazooka Bubble Gum. As the relationship between scent and memory is one of the cornerstones of the Demeter Fragrance Library, a fragrance inspired by Bazooka Bubble Gum was a natural. Bulgarian Rose Average User Rating Add To Wish List The softest, gentlest Rose scent imaginable, our version of Bulgarian Rose is delightfully authentic and precious. Harvested by hand, Bulgarian Rose oil, also known as "liquid gold", takes more than 1,300 rose blossoms to create one gram of rose oil Butterscotch Average User Rating Add To Wish List Butterscotch is smooth, buttery and rich, a warm and delectable blend, in the best Demeter gourmand tradition. The primary ingredients in Butterscotch are brown sugar and butter. According to "Housewife's Corner" in an 1848 newspaper, the real recipe for "making Doncaster butterscotch is one pound of butter, one pound of sugar and a quarter of a pound of treacle, boiled together." Butterscotch is similar to Toffee, but for butterscotch the sugar is boiled to the soft stage, and not hard, as with toffee Candy Cane Truffle Average User Rating Add To Wish List Peppermint Candy Canes are fabulous Christmas treats and decorations, but can be a bit overwhelming as a fragrance. So we made Candy Cane Truffle, using the chocolate notes to soften, round and balance the peppermint of the candy cane. The result is a surprisingly sophisticated, and shockingly wearable fragrance. We think of candy canes as traditionally striped, peppermint and hooked, but this was not always so. The origin of the candy cane goes back over 350 years, when candymakers both professional and amateur were making hard sugar sticks. The original candy was straight and completely white in color. The first historical reference to the familiar cane shape goes back to 1670, when the choirmaster at the Cologne Cathedral in Germany, bent the sugar-sticks into canes to represent a shepherd's staff. In 1900 the first red-and-white striped candy canes appeared. Around the same time, candy-makers added peppermint and wintergreen flavors to their candy canes and those flavors then became the traditional favorites Cannabis Flower Average User Rating Add To Wish List At Demeter, we do not involve ourselves with the politics, but with the beautiful scent of the Cannabis Flower. Slightly floral, slightly spicy, but unmistakably Cannabis, this fragrance has a deep and penetrating beauty. Cannabis is the most durable of the hemp plants, and it produces the toughest cloth, called `canvass.' Canvass was widely used as sails in the early shipping industry, as it was the only cloth that would not rot on contact with sea spray. From a medicinal perspective, Cannabis is reputed to alleviate asthma and glaucoma, and lower blood pressure. Today in the United States, hemp, which is defined as the roots, stalk, and stems of the cannabis plant, is legal to possess. The Cannabis Flower, however, which is at the heart of this fragrance, is used to make Marijuana, and is illegal to possess. Our suggestion; SMELL IT, DON'T SMOKE IT Caramel Add To Wish List Average User Rating Caramel candy was an 18th century American invention, related to the English toffee. There are no clear origins for caramel, but the recipe has remained consistent and simple: sugar and corn syrup cooked to the proper consistency. Demeter's caramel perfectly captures the essence of the candy-deep, rich, sweet, syrupy and sensual. No more need be said. Celery Average User Rating Add To Wish List The most underrated of vegetables. Give it more of a chance really. And, it smells great! Native to the Mediterranean region, celery in its wild form is called smallage, and it is grown to this day for flavoring. The Greeks called it selinon, and as such it is mentioned in Homer's Odyssey, dating from 850 BC. A member of the carrot family, celery is first recorded as a plant in France in 1623 and was probably developed either there or in Italy. America's celery industry was spawned in the 1850's when celery seeds were imported from Scotland the areas surrounding Kalamazoo, Michigan. Dutch farmers who settled there had the knowledge and skills necessary for utilizing muck soils (dark, fertile soils containing decomposed vegetable matter) to grow what is now a multi-million dollar crop. Most Michigan celery is of the green or "Pascal" variety. Demeter Fragrance Library's Celery Pick-Me-Up cologne provides the incredible sense of freshness associated with just-picked celery, a result of using essential oil taken from directly from the leaves of the celery plant.
