Merrion Cricket Club Building Works
• All teams can use the Old Belvedere changing rooms and showering
facilities before and after the game. Under no circumstances should any
items of gear/clothing/personal belongings be left in Old Belvedere Rugby
Club at any stage.
• Teas for all matches shall be served in Old Belvedere RFC. Travelling to and
from OBRC for tea will inevitably take extra time and the allocated time for
tea should probably reflect that – umpires to use their discretion
• Within Merrion (during the build) there will be the following facilities:
• Portakabin Toilets
• One portakabin changing room for all to store gear and shelter

General
Cricket Leinster Code of Conduct
• CL are considering some updates to this code but they may not be in
place this season
Dress Code
• NB LCU&SA Clothing should only be worn in matches to which you have
been appointed by LCU&SA.
Issues for Scorers
• If you find yourself with a scoring colleague who is not an adult it is NOT
suitable to sit in a scorebox, you should sit outside to avoid being in a oneto-one situation
• For matches were electronic scoring is being used at least one scorer MUST
maintain a paper record of the match. Scorers are requested to make
advance arrangements to ensure that at least one scorer has a book
available

Application of new PTA regulations
In summary the new regulation states the following:
• the PTA may be extended by the umpires as before – extra time can be added.
• if the innings is not complete at the end of the PTA the remaining overs should be
completed
• the umpires must inform the captain of the fielding team the scheduled cessation time
for the innings. This should be reiterated every time there is an interruption.
For matches that are NOT interrupted:
• umpires would agree the timepiece to be used and advise the fielding captain before
the match
• each umpire would note the start time of the innings on their match card
• regular reminders/updates would be provided to the fielding captain of the progress of
the innings. You should take note of time added and when you have advised the captain
• if the PTA elapses before the innings is complete the umpires will temporarily halt the
match once the ball next becomes dead. THIS MAY BE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN OVER.
• They will consult and determine the penalty to be added to the score and whether that
affects the result or not. If it causes a result to be reached the match will be over. They
will advise the scorers BEFORE restarting play as to the penalty to be added
• both umpires will note the actual finishing time of the innings on their match card

Application of new PTA regulations
For matches that ARE interrupted:
• umpires would agree the timepiece to be used and advise the fielding captain before
the match
• each umpire would note the start time of the innings on their match card
• regular reminders/updates would be provided to the fielding captain of the progress of
the innings. You should take note of time added and when you have advised the captain
• where play has been interrupted the umpires will, as part of calculations in relation to a
resumption, advise the captains of the revised cessation time for the innings
• further regular reminders/updates would be provided to the fielding captain of the
progress of the resumed innings
• in an interrupted match situation there is one over leeway allowed. So for instance if a
24 over innings is due to finish at 1810 and at that time less than 23 overs have been
bowled then the time has elapsed and the process outlined above must be adopted.
• both umpires will note the actual finishing time of the innings on their match card

Interpretation of One Day Wide Regulation
Leg side
• All deliveries directed and bowled down the leg side (behind the body of the
striker, standing in a normal guard position) will be interpreted as a form of
negative bowling and should be called wide.
• For the sake of clarity, a ball that passes down the leg side, but in between the
striker and the leg stump, is not to be called wide since the striker has had a
reasonable opportunity to play at the ball.
• A ball that just misses the leg stump is not deemed to be negative bowling and
should not be called wide when the batsman moves across to the off stump
from his original stance. Had the batsman not moved towards the offside but
remained in a normal guard position the ball would have struck him, thereby
negating any wide call.

Interpretation of One Day Wide Regulation
Offside
• Any delivery that passes outside the wide guideline, with the batsman in a
normal guard position, should be called wide.
For clarity:
• If the batsman brings the ball sufficiently within his reach and the ball passes
outside the wide guideline on the offside then it is not a wide. For example, a
batsman moving to the off side as the bowler bowls, could bring the ball within
his reach even though the ball passes outside the wide guideline on the offside
of the wicket, and if he fails to make contact with the ball, the delivery will not
be called a wide.
• In extreme cases where the bowler delivers a ball and it passes wide of the
return crease, then regardless of the movement of the striker and even if he
brings the ball within reach, if no contact is made with the ball, then this
delivery shall be called wide.

Interpretation of One Day Wide Regulation
Wide interpretation for the reverse sweep or switch hit
The interpretation to be followed for calling a wide when a switch hit or
reverse sweep is played or the batsman gets in a position to play the shot
and then aborts it, is as follows:
• From the moment the ball ceases to be dead, whenever a batsman has
changed his grip and/or his stance (or feinted to do so) or has
attempted a reverse sweep or switch hit, then he loses the tight
definition of the leg-side wide and the wide guidelines are employed on
both sides of the wicket, not just the off-side.
