Description: The Colorado River Concert Association presents world-class music programs for
elementary, junior high and high school students at no charge to the school or the students. Many
times these performances are the first live music experience for these youth. All genres of music are
presented including pop, classical, jazz, opera, blues, country and more. Often time’s youth are
thrilled to be invited on stage to participate with the performers. The Colorado River Concert
Association is dedicated to “musicating” our youth in a fun and educational way.

Description: Arizona is raising expectations for students. Arizona’s Common Core Standards are
more rigorous academic standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics for grades K-12. The
standards provide a strong foundation of knowledge and skills that better prepare Arizona students
for college, career and life. Participants in this workshop will learn why Common Core is necessary
and what it means for parents, students and teachers. Parents are asked to reflect on the skills
necessary for today’s workforce and then discuss how their children acquire these skills. Examples
are provided for the shifts in English and Math as well as the new test. Parents are provided with
examples of how they can help their student succeed in this new environment.

child’s academic success. Through mass media, social media and grassroots outreach, Expect More
Arizona’s ongoing family engagement campaign asks parents to be more engaged in their child’s
education and provides them with valuable tools and resources. This workshop examines the effect
of expectations on our lives. Parents discuss the changes in the workforce and reflect on the way
technology has changed our world. New expectations for the state of Arizona are discussed (Move
On When Reading, Common Core, A-F School Grading and Teacher/Principal evaluations). Finally,
parents are asked to consider the expectations they will have in their homes for their children’s
academic success.
