French 2 – French 2 is a yearlong course that will continue to expose students to the basics of the French language and culture of the Francophone world. The course focuses on communication both in the spoken and written forms. In addition, the class will broaden students’ understanding of our global community by exposing them to the French-speaking people and cultures around the globe. This course is a prerequisite for French 3 and is a full year of high school language credit. A variety of resources are used throughout the year, including French websites, apps, music videos, magazine articles, literary works, and portions of the Bon Voyage! (Level 2) textbook and workbook. Classroom Expectations A. Come to class with materials and assignments already completed. B. Follow all classroom procedures. C. Be respectful of classroom materials and equipment. D. Remain on task. If you finish your work early, allow others to remain on task. E. Listen attentively to your classmates and teacher. Respect others. F. Take risks, speak often and practice, practice! G. Be positive. Be productive. Be polite. Failure to meet classroom expectations will result in receiving: verbal warning, Student-Teacher conference, phone call home, 30 minute detention, referral, and/or parent conference. Class Materials 1. Three ring binder (1” or 2”if sharing with another subject) with five dividers 2. Notebook paper 3. Black or blue pen 4. Colored grading pen 5. Highlighter pen 6. 1 package Dry Erase Markers 7. 1 Box of Kleenex 8. Recommended (Not Required) Materials: Ear buds, French/English dictionary or app Binder – Divide and label your binder sections as follows: Pour Commencer (Warm-up) Notes Classwork/Homework Tests/Quizzes Vocabulary Grade Distribution Tests/Projects: 30% Classwork/Homework: 25% Quizzes: 40% Daily Participation: 5% Daily Participation 1. having homework out and completed at beginning of class 2. working on warm-up activity when class begins 3. bringing all class materials/supplies 4. participating actively in class 5. speaking in French!!! Late Work: Up to 100% = Work turned in on time Up to 70% = Work turned in the next Class Day Up to 50% = Work turned in 3rd School Day *NB- FR2 is a high school level course. Policies and procedures are consistent with high school standards. Class/Homework Grades: A portion of class/homework assignments will be picked and graded for accuracy, while others will be a completion grade. Tests/Quizzes: Quizzes will be given approximately once a week, and tests twice per six weeks. Final Exam: There will be a cumulative midterm and final exam. These exams are averaged and weighted equal to ONE six-week grade when calculating the percentage for high school credit. Absences: When absent, it is students’ responsibility to find out what work was missed. Students should check the Buddy Memo box. It is recommended that they attend tutoring to review the missed material. Tutoring: Wednesdays after school 3-4pm. Students are encouraged to come to tutoring at any time during the six weeks. However, they are required to attend tutoring if they are in danger of failing or have missed several homework assignments.
