Introductory Statement Soh Jia Xuan Clara was a student of Chung Cheng High School (Main) from 2011 to 2014. Intellectual Independence and Passion for Learning Clara is effectively bilingual in both English and Chinese. Her proficiency in the Chinese Language is evident from the distinction that she scored in the 2013 GCE Olevel Chinese Examination. Her language proficiency is demonstrated when she obtained the merit award in the National English-Chinese Translation Competition in 2012 and 2013. Clara was also chosen to be part of the pioneer batch of students in the Chinese Development Programme where she was presented with opportunities to attend specialised programmes by renowned local authors. Clara’s strong oratorical skills is demonstrated when she was chosen to participate in the 6th National Bilingual Speech Competition in 2011 and had clinched the top 5 placing. She was invited to be the speaker for CCHMS Open House and was involved in numerous publicity talks in 2011. Clara was also a participant of the SAP Seminar in which her team attained the Best Creative Award. Her fluency in language is reaffirmed when she was selected to be the Emcee for various events such as Chung Cheng Arts Festival in 2012 and Chung Cheng High 74th School Anniversary in 2013. Clara was invited to take part in the school’s bicultural flagship programme, the Nanyang-Chung Cheng Collaboration @ Fudan, China, where she had the opportunity to interact with students from the High School Affiliated to Fudan University to understand more about their culture. She was appointed as the Overallin-Charge during the six-week immersion programme in China. Clara is a conscientious student with a positive work attitude and she takes genuine interest in all that she undertakes. She posseses a keen interest in Mathematics, which enabled her to attain a Credit in the New South Wales Mathematics Competition and Australian Mathematics Competition in 2012. In addition, Clara was actively involved in several programmes such as the Temasek Junior College Student Leadership Congress, AG-SIM International Youth Leaders’ Summit 2012, NextGen Leadership Youth Seminar 2013, Dialogue on Education Policies in Singapore and NUS Union Forum in 2014. Interpersonal Skills Clara was able to balance studies with her active involvement in Students Council and the National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC). As President of the Students Council, Clara demonstrated a strong sense of leadership and carried out her duties competently. She played an active role in improving the school’s image and discipline and promoted bonding within the Council board. Clara was entrusted with taking charge of the planning of numerous school events such as the Student Leaders Investiture and Secondary One Orientation. She demonstrated commendable commitment and dedication to her duties and displayed a high level of responsibility. As a peopleoriented leader, Clara was able to relate well with her peers and juniors, and she possesses desirable social and moral values that have won her respect from her peers. She values the contributions of her peers and welcomes opportunities for improvement. As the Secondary One Squadtaker in NPCC, Clara was a caring and enthusiastic leader that her juniors looked up to. In 2013, Clara was appointed as the 2nd Overallin-Charge for the Area 11 Games Day and Swearing-In Ceremony, where she collaborated with five other schools in the planning of the event. She was also selected to be part of the Guard-Of-Honour Contingent in the Chung Cheng High 74th School Anniversary Parade in 2013 and was also chosen to represent the Unit in the Inter-Unit Drill Competition. Being aware of the need to contribute to society, Clara has been actively volunteering for Chingay Parade in the area of transport management from 2012 to 2014. She also participated in the Sentosa Outreach Programme in 2013 in which she helped to raise awareness on Crime Prevention to the public. She served as a volunteer in beachcleaning at East Coast Park and actively participated in the annual NPCC Service Day. Clara demonstrates consideration and empathy for others in the community and actively volunteered her services to organisations such as Thye Hua Kwan Moral Charities, where she offered to clean the flats of the elderly and accompanied a group of senior citizens for a tour around Yakult Factory in 2012. Clara also embarked on a community project in 2014, “Celebrating Mountbatten Seniors”, where she hosted the seniors of Mountbatten Constituency. Personal Attributes As an amiable and easy-going person, Clara interacts well with her peers and is mindful of the feelings of others. She takes great pride in her work and is meticulous when assigned tasks. Despite her achievements, Clara remains humble and respectful of authority. As the Class Chairman in 2011, Clara is trustworthy and can be relied upon to make sound decisions. She perseveres to achieve her best and constantly seeks self-improvement. She is able to assume responsibilities in a matured manner and had clinched the OSCAR Award as ‘The Most Responsible Student’ in 2014.
