Worksheet – Part 2 – Team Discussion Guidelines
Get together with your team to discuss your answers and develop the team’s contract.
1. What does each team member want to get out of this project or experience?




What do I want to learn?
How do I learn – by doing, by someone else explaining?
Goals for the project/experience – something to do with performance that isn’t
just tied to grades (e.g. generate best new ideas; become a high performing
team)
Hopes and fears about the group.
2. What do I have to offer others?


Previous experience that might be helpful to the members of the team
Special skills that I can teach others or coach others to use (e.g. excel;
consensus building; project management).

4. Choose a name for your team and be able to explain why the name is appropriate.
5. Discuss your specific expectations for the performance of:

The team with regard to its project or task
Each individual team member.
6. Reach consensus on the team’s goals and expectations and write them in measurable,
performance-based terms.
7. Decide on procedures that the team will use to communicate and manage itself.


Focus on both task accomplishment and team dynamics (rewards, feedback,
warnings, conflict management)
Consider procedures for managing a team member’s performance which is
outside expectations.
8. Identify the team’s policies, rules or norms - behaviours that constitute grounds for
initiating each procedure e.g. rule might be to attend each meeting; procedure might be
to minute the names of members who miss a meeting without prior notification.
9. Develop a timeline for the milestones in your project and identify meeting times and
places. Discuss the tasks that are necessary for project completion.
10. Discuss the roles that will be needed for the team to function and communicate well
(process roles) and those that are necessary to complete the project (task roles).
11. Finalise the team contract – print a copy and have each team member sign it. Make
copies for each member and attach one copy to the group report.
