Brief description and some features that being used in this site:

Wikispaces has been great so far. It is an amazing thing to learn through community building activities in an online environment. It is a site with advanced features for businesses, non-profits and educators are available for an annual fee. As of

March 2008, they had more than 920,000 registered members and hosted more than

390,000 wikis. By March 2009, that number had increased to over 2.2 million registered members and more than 900,000 wikis. Wikispaces have also given away more than

100,000 premium wikis to K-12educators. Wikis are one of the first online collaboration tools. At a minimum, they are simply editable text-based web pages accessed with a standard web browser, where changes are archived and can be recovered. Wiki farm services host large numbers of individual wikis with sufficient performance to support simultaneous use by large numbers of users, and include a wide variety of collaboration features.

What are the reviews (advantages and disadvantages) of using the site?

Advantages:

Easy to use and has a step by step technology which guides students through using Wiki.

 Students are able to develop communication skills develop communication skills within class using the computer

Wiki products are immediate so there is no need to wait for a publisher to create a new edition or update information.

Anyone can edit and it is easy to use and follow. This gives students the potential for being authors, not just researchers.

It provides opportunities for " active-learning " activities in the classroom.

People located in different parts of the world can work on the same document and add their own parts. This builds a community of learners.

 Teachers can view ‘recent changes’ on the student’s Wikispaces which assists the assessment processes.

Widens access to the power of web publishing to non-technical users

Wiki has no prearranged structure - it is a flexible tool which can be used for a wide variety of applications.

There is a wide choice of open source software Wiki's to choose from so licensing costs make it more affordable (to installing an institutional Wiki).

As Paul Fuller was heard to say in his keynote address at the St Helena's

Catholic Primary School ICT day (2007), we live in an age of "DIGITAL

NATIVES" (our young generation who have grown up with ICT surrounding them) and "DIGITAL IMMIGRANTS" (the older generation who are these children's teachers! To teach the digital natives we need to talk in a language they understand, and ICT is not the way of the future, it is here, now. Using wiki products, weblogs, and other Information Communication Technology engages students more because it is in "their language", that of the digital natives.

Disadvantages:

 Advantages in one context may be disadvantages in another.Anyone can edit so this may be too open for some applications, for example confidential documentation. However it is possible to regulate user access.

 Students become easily distracted and use the computers for purposes other than course-related activities.

 Open to SPAM and Vandalism if not managed properly. There are easy ways to restore a page however, and on WikiEducator you must be logged in to edit

 pages so this reduces vandalism by automated spam bots.

Requires Internet connectivity to collaborate, but technologies to produce print versions of articles are improving.

 The flexibility of a wiki's structure can mean that information can become disorganised. As a wiki grows, the community plans and administers the structure collaboratively.

 Are you building a freely editable and public wiki, or do you need to be conscious of privacy and security? There can also be issues of legal liability and risk to reputation, particularly if you publish to the web. Options such as a moderated wiki format, user agreements, and locking some pages from public view can offer protection.

Brief description and some features that being used in this site:

ChompChomp: Grammar Bytes is a comprehensive guide to grammar. In fact, one teacher at a middle school has thrown away his grammar text and uses this site exclusively in his language arts classroom. The site is divided into four sections -- grammar terms, exercises, handouts, and tips and rules. Terms are defined in detail, with numerous examples, colorful (and often illustrated) explanations, and links to related terms. Five review exercises (20 questions each) are provided for each term.

The exercises are interactive, allowing students to see what they got right or wrong and why, and printable handouts help students and teachers keep track of progress. Finally, the tips and rules section, with both HTML and PDF versions, gives easy-to-understand strategies for attacking grammar problems. This site is best used in grades 7-12.

(These are the things that you can see inside in every section)

As far as I have seen this section is a section where you can see the extracurricular activities of the students. They post it in this section in order the students to be informed the latest activity of their classmates. But for me also they do not give more emphasis about this section.

They do not give more emphasis about this section on what is the used of this section.

What are the reviews (advantages and disadvantages) of using the site?

There are a lot of things that we can consider as the advantages of this site. We a lot of features on this site and the activities are separated accordingly. You can also upload or write comments on this site. One more thing about this site is that it is very organize in terms of the input of this site. You can give feedback on this site and also it has a link of YouTube and other sites.

I think the only disadvantage of this site is that I cannot see some feature about on how to upload files and videos. You can only leave comments and suggestion at the feedback section. Upon entering this site you cannot see instructions which guide you on this site. They do not have a section for the outputs of the student’s only exercises that they have.
