The DCT program, which began as a pilot in 2010 and will transition into an opt-in program moving forward, enables a financial institution to use the ACH Network to electronically collect lowvalue consumer checks deposited by customers. Aptys’ PayLOGICS system, which can be utilized by all financial institutions, simplifies the DCT process by enabling the bank of first deposit to truncate a check and clear it with a Direct ACH Debit Payment. Financial institutions can save significantly on the clearing cost per item, dramatically reducing what was once a costly budget item. “NACHA is pleased to collaborate with Aptys Solutions and we encourage financial institutions to evaluate how they can benefit from the DCT program,” said Janet O. Estep, NACHA president and CEO. “We strive to bring together financial institutions, solutions providers, and businesses in different ways to support the development and use of innovative solutions that leverage a trusted, common rules set. Our collaboration with Aptys is another way that we are enabling organizations that utilize the ACH Network to realize cost savings and improve efficiencies.” Aptys’ software enables financial institutions to: Identify and separate DCT transaction candidates from an image cash letter file Automatically create ACH collection transactions using the TRC (Truncation) SEC code Automate the origination of an ACH file with the TRC transactions Output a rebalanced image cash letter file for delivery through normal clearing channels Item archival is available to allow efficient second day processing of any converted items “Adoption of this technology will be of significant benefit to financial institutions of all sizes,” said Sean Pennock, president of Aptys Solutions. “High cost tier 2, 3 or 4 items can be easily cleared electronically at a far lower cost via the ACH Network. Much of the savings Check 21 provided was in the form of reduced transportation costs. The DCT program truly transforms the market by offering extremely low cost item clearing options utilizing standard ACH processing, which has long been in place.” About NACHA – The Electronic Payments Association NACHA manages the development, administration, and governance of the ACH Network, the backbone for the electronic movement of money and data.
