ADVANCED ACCOUNTING CLASS SYLLABUS 2014-2015 TEACHER: ROOM NUMBER: DURATION: TEACHER CONTACT: Mr. Matthews A222 Full Year dmatthews@rtmsd.org or (610) 627-6321 A. Class Description Advanced Accounting uses an integrated approach to teach accounting. Students first learn how businesses plan for and evaluate their operating, financing and investing decisions and then how accounting systems gather and provide data to internal and external decisions makers. This year-long course covers all the learning objectives of a traditional college level financial accounting course, plus those from a managerial accounting course. Topics include an introduction to accounting, accounting information systems, time value of money, and accounting for merchandising firms, sales and receivables, fixed assets, debt and equity. Other topics include statement of cash flows, financial ratios, cost-volume profit analysis and variance analysis. This is a unique class and will be taught through demonstration, group and individual projects, homework assignments, and student generated activities. B. Class Expectations 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Always come to class prepared! Be on time! Be respectful! NO cell phones! NO talking when the teacher is talking! The first row that is seated quietly and ready to leave when the bell rings, will be dismissed first. 7. Have fun, share ideas, and learn something new each day! Mr. Matthews has the right to assign a ‘teacher detention’ for defiance of class expectations. 1 C. Class Materials: You will need to bring with you each day: Text Book Calculator Class specific folder Class specific notebook Pencil D. Absences & Assignments If you are absent, you will need to see me for missed work when you return. You will have the same number of days to make up missed work as the number of days you were absent (does not include sporting events, vacations, etc.). Please provide notification of planned absences. If you are absent on a day that a project is due, it is STILL DUE. Please try to be in class each day. The content we will be covering is so important and new information relates to topics previously covered. E. Late Work Turning any work in late is unacceptable. For each day that an assignment is late, you will lose 3 points for that day. Once 3 days have passed, a grade of zero will be assigned for the missing work. All homework builds upon the lessons from each day. Therefore, it is so important to complete all activities to enhance learning. F. Grading Policy The grading policy will be followed in accordance with the district grading scale. G. Contact Information Please feel free to contact me by phone or e-mail. I check my e-mail/voice messages two times a day, at the beginning of the school day and at the end of the school day. It is always my intent to respond as quickly as possible. 2 Please sign and return the signature form below to Mr. Matthews no later than ________________.
