met·a·phor [met-uh-fawr, -fer]
noun1.a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it’s
not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance.
Example: “A mighty fortress is our God”
extended metaphor
noun1.a metaphor introduced and then further developed throughout all or part of a
literary work, especially a poem:
Robert Frost uses two roads as an extended metaphor in “The Road Not Taken”
