Picture books can be used in the middle school and high school for many reasons. They are simple ways to
introduce a topic, reinforce the current topic under discussion, illustrate a given topic and as a way to bring
literature into the non-English content areas. An excellent way to use picture books is to read the book and
then have the students respond – whether through various forms of writing, through art, or through
discussion.
