EXTRA Added is a new ambassadorship scheme run by Nuffield, aimed at giving students an opportunity to
develop their skills and gain experience of working in a professional theatre company.
This profile is designed to give you an idea of what your work as an EXTRA here at Nuffield will involve. If you

Role: EXTRA (student ambassador volunteer)
Department: Communications and Development
Responsible to: Chris Duncan (Press Officer) and Tracey Cruickshank (Audience Development Officer) in the
first instance and other members of the Communications and Development Department
Venue: Various - the Nuffield Theatre, on campus, and locally
Duties and Responsibilities
EXTRAs will be responsible for promoting upcoming productions at Nuffield. EXTRAs will work together on their
campaigns to ensure maximum publicity and will work with members of the marketing department to come up with
marketing campaigns and strategies. As an EXTRA you will gain experience working in a professional producing
theatre by:











Attending regular EXTRA meetings & briefings with Nuffield’s Audience Development Officer and Press
Officer
Acting as an ambassador for Nuffield generally and at specific university events
Maintaining regular communication with the Communications and Development department, providing us
with feedback, new contacts, campaign ideas & feedback, including social networking
Making connections with student publications on behalf of Nuffield
Distributing our latest literature throughout campus to their appropriate venues
Working towards attendance figures (new and repeat attenders)
Keeping up-to-date on ticket pricing and availability/special deals
Passing on information on events happening in the local area/on campus which could provide good
marketing opportunities, especially events for students
Giving feedback on shows and capturing feedback from other attenders
Liaising with student societies to arrange group bookings for socials
Taking part in publicity events for shows as marketing support
Time Commitment
We ask for a minimum commitment of two hours per week during term time. Aside from the regular meetings,
these hours can be flexible but the EXTRAs should be pro-active, coordinating between each other and
scheduling their hours in advance to fit around study commitments. EXTRAs are required to promote our long
running productions, one nighters, workshops & other associated events that run during term time. The scheme
will run during the Autumn and Spring terms, avoiding the busy Summer term.

Interested in a career in theatre/arts administration or marketing
Useful previous experience
No experience necessary.

A free ticket to every Nuffield production during the preview period
A backstage tour of the venue
Preferential booking on workshops and master classes*
More about the role
We can only accommodate a limited number of EXTRAs per academic year and an application form must be
completed (below). If successful, applicants will become an EXTRA for the first two terms of this academic year.
The role is unpaid but expenses may be covered in some cases (such as previewing shows in other venues) but
only with agreement in advance with the Communications and Development Department.
You must be a full time student and over the age of 18 to apply.
Training & support
The Communications and Development team will support EXTRAs as and when required. This will include
training in press, marketing and audience development techniques as well as data protection.

this date, some applicants will be invited to meet Chris and Tracey for an informal chat. Successful applicants will
be notified as soon as possible after then. Unsuccessful applicants will be contacted, but we are unable to offer
feedback to any applicant.
