Requirements for a Bachelor’s
Degree
Entry Level Writing:
Transfer students are required to have completed LowerDivision writing, including this requirement, before
transferring to UCI.
2 semesters or 3 quarters of transferable
Composition/Critical Thinking/Reasoning usually fulfills
this requirement.
American History and Institutions (may be met in several
ways):
Most students have satisfied this requirement with high
school work. International students, see a counselor for
information on how to satisfy the requirement. This
requirement is not automatically fulfilled with IGETC.
Grade requirement
Minimum grade point average of at least ‘C’
(2.0) is required:

In any given quarter, if all three of these requirements are not met,
you may be subject to probation or disqualification.
If your quarterly GPA falls below 2.0, you may be subject to
probation or disqualification.
Other Requirements
180 Units:
You must complete at least 180 quarter units.
(See Residence Requirement below).
A maximum of 70 semester units (105 quarter units) can be
transferred from a Community College.
1 semester unit = 1.5 quarter units
Residence requirement
At least 36 of the final 45 units completed by a student for the
bachelor's degree must be earned in residence at the UCI
campus.
Normal progress toward degree
Must follow the program of study required for your major and
graduate when done (normally in two years).
You are required to enroll full-time (at least 12 units) each
quarter, unless you receive permission from a counselor.

Lecture and Discussion:
-Lectures: formal, take notes, taught by Professor
-Discussion: may be taught by TA, open
atmosphere, ask questions, get help, discussion is
mandatory.
Lecture, Discussion and Lab:
-Enroll in all three!
If you don’t enroll in all components, when you sign
out of WebREG, it will drop you from everything!
This message indicates the student has not met the prerequisite for the course
and should contact an Academic Counselor in the School that the course is
offered in.
Check the UCI General Catalogue to see if you indeed met the prerequisite for
the class, if you met the prerequisite at another college, just let us know and we
can clear you to take the class. We can only clear you for Physical Sciences
classes (Math, Chem, Earth System Sciences and Physics classes).
