7th Grade Project Summative Assessment For this project you and your group members will be expected to reteach concepts learned this year. Your lesson must include a do now/pre-activity, direct teaching, class activity, independent practice, homework, and benchmark assessment. You will be given Tuesday, May 7th and Thursday, May 9th to plan with your group and you will be given two class periods to teach your lesson and assess your peers. Use the checklist below as a guide to plan your lesson. Stick to the due dates to make sure your project is completed on time. Refer to the rubric on the following page for further information. Group Members: ______________________, _______________________ Topic: ________________________________ Due Dates: - Objective and standards for lesson due Tuesday, May 7th - Lesson lay out and activities due for approval on Friday, May 10th - Homework assignment and benchmark assessment due for approval on Thursday, May 16th - Papers to be copied due to Miss Rodgers on Thursday, May 16th - Presentation Dates: May 20th/May 21st, May 22nd/May 23rd, May 28th/May 29th, May 30th, May 31st Your lesson must include: Teaching objective and standards being met Do Now and/or pre-activity (What do the students already know about this concept? How can students learn or explore the concept on their own?) Direct Teaching – Teach the objective of the lesson. Provide notes and examples for students to copy. Ask questions to the class. Class activity – The class will practice the concept in groups or on their own. This is the time where the class can play a short game or create an alternate assignment. Review and independent practice– Bring the class back together. Discuss the class activity and review the concept that was taught. Have students practice the concept independently. Homework – This should be given at the end of the first day of teaching. Assign homework from the textbook, or print a worksheet from the internet. The homework must allow students to practice the concept you taught in class. Review the homework the next class period. Benchmark Assessment – Create a quiz to assess what the class learned from your lesson. Assign point values for each question. This will count as a benchmark assessment for the students taking the quiz. Grading Rubric You will be graded on the content of your lesson as well as your presentation. SWBAT identify real-world function relationships. SWBAT identify a function using a function table. NJCCCS: 4.3.7 B.1 CCSS: 7.RP.2.a, 7.RP.2.b, 7.RP.2.c, 7.RP.2.d Materials: pictures of car keys, guided notes, graphs and tables for activity, homework worksheet Do Now/Pre-Activity: 1. Ask students to take a few minutes to write down what they think of when they hear the word function. What does it mean? What others vocabulary words can they think of? 2. Relate functions to real life scenario - Explain that today we have 6 lucky winners of a lottery – pass out “keys” of cars to 4 people – have students come to the board and write their name and what they one – Ask students to describe the relationship of the lottery (everyone winner wins one prize) 3. Provide different scenarios - sharing a car, winning two cars, lost their car – is the relationship the same? Direct teaching plan: 1. Discuss and define functions – The function is the lottery – the winners and prizes are the two parts of our functions – what are the two parts of a function? Domain – winners, range – prizes 2. Provide data tables and graphs – discuss functions vs. non functions – vertical line test Class Activity: 1. On each table place a graph or a table. Students will rotate to the different groups to determine if the graph or table represents a function. Review and Independent Practice: 1. Discuss answers to group activity. 2. Review the definition of a function, domain, range, vertical line test 3. Display a graph/table. Ask students to write down whether it is a function or not and explain why. Assess students work as formative assessment.
