Do Now – Alliteration worksheet 2. Collect homework 3. Alliteration menu project Day 5 – Onomatopoeia 1. Ask what onomatopoeia is. Hand out definition and explain. Have students give examples 2. Read “Ankylosaurus”; ask students which words were onomatopoetic 3. Read story “This is the Teacher”; have students raise their hands when they hear words in the story that are onomatopoetic 4. Have students identify sources of sounds that are in everyday life. On piece of loose leaf have the students list 5 examples along with a setting and time from their day that the sounds are heard. Define simile, metaphor, and personification 3. Read aloud attached worksheet of literary elements. Have students guess what they are 4. Complete “Using Simile” worksheet; go over when done 5. Complete “Figurative Language/ Simile” worksheet; let students have time to complete and then go over HW – Picturesquely Speaking worksheet Day 10 – Metaphor 1. Do Now – Metaphor/ Using Metaphor worksheet; go over 2. Correct homework 3. Complete Metaphors/ Mixed up Metaphors worksheet; give 10 minutes then go over HW – Figurative language: Metaphors worksheet Day 11 – Personification 1. Read to class – “Snoopy’s 2 Minute Stories”; point out personification 2. Collect homework 3. Hand out verb sheet and 1 index card per person. Have students use the word they received on the index card and the verbs on the worksheet to create their own personification sentence. 4. Pass index card to the right and make another sentence. Continue as time allows. HW – Figurative Language: Personification Day 12 – Idioms 1. Do Now – “Can You Make Heads or Tails of It”; go over 2. Read Amelia Bedelia story. Point out idioms. 3.
