Crafting Functional Microscale Biomaterials with Epoxy Chemistry
Bio:
Dr. Wei He is an Associate Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Materials Science
and Engineering and the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Biomedical Engineering at the
University of Tennessee (UT). She is also a core faculty member of the Institute of Biomedical
Engineering (iBME) at UT. Dr. He received her B.S. degree in Chemistry and a minor of B.E. degree in
Engineering Economics from Tianjin University of China in 1998. She then obtained her Ph.D. in
Chemistry at the University of Connecticut in 2003. Following a postdoctoral training in neural
engineering at Georgia Tech and a short stint in bioengineering at University of Washington, Dr. He
joined UT as an Assistant Professor in 2007. Her current research interests are biomaterials for drug
delivery and tissue engineering, and surface engineering for bio-interfacing, particularly neurointerfacing and bone-interfacing. Dr. He’s recent awards include a National Science Foundation CAREER
Award, the MSE Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, and the MSE Faculty Award for Excellence in
Research. She is a member of the Society for Biomaterials and Materials Research Society.
