BIBETH ORTEZA (writer and producer)

Actor-writer-producer. Obtained a

Bachelor of Arts degree in English (Imaginative Writing) from the University of the

Philippines in 1975. Married to film director Carlos Siguion-Reyna; they have two children, Sara and Rafa.

Orteza enjoyed success as a comedienne on film and television. She wrote top-rated

Philippine television programs such as Iskul Bukol, Hapi House, and Okay Ka, Fairy Ko.

Her first screenplay, the critically acclaimed Palipat-lipat, Papalit-palit, was directed by

Lino Brocka in 1979. She went back full time into writing for film, with Inagaw Mo ang

Lahat sa Akin (Harvest Home), 1995; Abot-Kamay ang Pangarap (Elena’s Redemption), 1996;

Ligaya ang Itawag Mo sa Akin (They Call Me Joy), 1997; Ang Lalaki sa Buhay ni Selya (The

Man in Her Life), 1997; Tatlo… Magkasalo (Three), 1998; and Kahapon May Dalawang Bata

(Yesterday Children), 1999. Inagaw… was chosen best story by the FAMAS in 1996 and in the same year adjudged Best Picture at the Nortel Palm Springs International Film

Festival by the Riverside International Film Festival. In 1998, Ang Lalaki sa Buhay ni Selya

(The Man in Her Life) won a Special Jury Prize from the Teddy Awards (for films with gay and lesbian content) at the Berlin International Film Festival, a Special Jury Prize from the Turin International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, and the Best Asian Film award from the Newport International Film Festival. Kahapon… was second-runner up in the 1999 Toronto International Film Festival’s Air Canada People’s Choice Awards, and Best Foreign Film in the 2000 Newport Beach International Film Festival.

Her teleplay Aangkinin Ko ang Bukas (Tomorrow Will be Mine), directed by her husband

Carlos, was chosen Best Movie for Television at the 1996 Singapore International Film

Festival.

When husband and wife took a leave from film production in 2001, Orteza continued to write for television, started to direct television dramas, and went back to writing for film.

A breast cancer survivor, Orteza is spokesperson of the breast cancer information advocate I Can Serve Foundation. She also served as Regent of the University of the

Philippines from 2010-2013, and is presently a member of the Movie and Television

Review and Classification Board of the Philippines.

She is currently writer-director of the sitcom Vampire ang Daddy Ko (Dad is a Vampire), and director of Aawitan Kita sa Makati, a monthly live stage musical.

Orteza and husband Carlos have teamed up anew for Where I Am King (Hari ng Tondo), which she wrote and produced, and Carlos directed.

The couple are planning to make at least two films a year.

ROBERT AREVALO (“Ricardo Villena,” the patriarch)

is a Filipino actor, director and writer. He received his elementary, high school and college education from the Ateneo de Manila University, in which he finished Bachelor of Science in

Business Administration.

Executive Assistant to the company president of Nepomuceno Productions, 1966-68;

Picture Production; Premiere Productions, 1996-1997). He also served as a member of the

CRIS VILLONCO (“Anna,” the granddaughter)

began her singing career at age nine, and has performed on stage, film, and television as an actor, singer, and recording artist.

In 2000, she sang at the St. Peter's Square for a Jubilee mass officiated by Pope John Paul

II. That same year, she was featured in TIME (International Edition) as a Hero For The

Planet. In May 2006, she graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in New York and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree with concentrations in Music, and Economic

Development.

In 2013, Cris along with fellow actors Rem Zamora, Jenny Jamora, Ana Abad Santos and

Topper Fabregas set up Red Turnip Theater, Inc., a company fueled by its founders’ passion for dramatic text and the hope for a unique theatrical experience.

Queen, God’s Favorite: The Noriega Story, and The Great Raid.

Cruz, Panginoon ng Driod, Kapinagan, Rashomon, and Salvador/Javier.

The actor is also an accomplished dancer. He served as a member of the CCP Dance

Company (1971-1974), the University of the East Dance Troupe (1971-1974), the

University of the Philippines Filipiniana Dance Troupe (1974-1975), and the Allegro

Dancers (1974-1976).

Cortez is the incumbent president of the Actors’ Guild of the Philippines. He also serves as a member of the Board of Governors of the Film Academy of the Philippines (2010present), the Mowelfund Board of Trustees (2008-present), the Board of Directors of the

AIZA SEGUERRA (“Raula,” the musician)

first captured the hearts of

Filipinos when she joined the Little Miss Philippines pageant in the popular noontime variety show Eat Bulaga. As the country’s premier child superstar, she starred in boxoffice hits like Wake Up Little Susie, Super Inday and the Golden Bibe, Petrang Kabayo at ang

Pilyang Kuting, Me and Ninja Liit, and Papa’s Girl. She dominated television as part of Eat

Bulaga and the top-rating sitcom Okay Ka, Fairy Ko! Her recent film and television work includes the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) juggernaut Enteng Kabisote series, the morning television top-rater Be Careful with My Heart, and Where I am King / Hari ng

Tondo for Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.

In 2001, she reinvented herself as a musician with the release of an album whose title track “Pagdating ng Panahon” would become the biggest hit of the year. She has since evolved as one of the top recording artists the country has ever produced.

Realizing her dream to become a total performer, Aiza parlayed her talent to theatre.

Her stage credits include The Rocky Horror Show (2002, Atlantis Productions), Avenue Q

(2007-2010, Atlantis Productions), and Rock of Ages (2012, Atlantis Productions).

She received numerous awards including the FAMAS (1989, 1991, 1993), Star Awards

(1993), and Metro Manila Film Festival (1991). She also received honors for her television hosting and acting projects. In 2002, the Asian Television Awards recognized her performance in the Maaalaala Mo Kaya episode, “Songbook,” as the best in the region.

Following her success as a musical artist, she has been a two-time Awit Awards Best

Female Recording Artist (2002, 2009) and a Star Awards for Music recipient of Acoustic

Artist of the Year (2009). Her albums are certified hits: Pagdating ng Panahon (5x platinum), Pinakamamahal (2x platinum), Para Lang Sa ‘Yo (gold record), Open Arms

(platinum), and Aiza Seguerra: Live (platinum).

GIAN MAGDANGAL (“Vic,” the violent security guard)

makes his debut feature film appearance in Where I am King / Hari ng Tondo.

His love for singing came from his participation in La Salle Green Hills's Kundirana, the same music group that has produced Filipino musical performers Ogie Alcasid, Randy

Santiago, Dingdong Avanzado and Gary Valenciano. Gian then ventured into theatre as part of La Salle's CUE Drama Club. After high school, he pursued his passion for music by joining the local vocal group 17:28, which would release two mainstream albums: the debut album 17:28 produced by Star Records featuring the original hits “Come Breathe

Me” and the ABS-CBN Station ID “Sukob Na,” and the second album Cozy produced by

Viva Records.

In 2006, Gian became the first runner-up in the search for the Philippine Idol which aired on TV 5. He was later cast in GMA 7's Sunday noontime variety show SOP which would be reformatted as Party Pilipinas, and which featured him as mainstay during 2007-2013.

While in SOP, he released his debut album under Sony Music entitled Lovetracks, personal reinterpretations of selected cover songs. At GMA, he regularly performed in

musical and variety specials, and in the soap operas Rosalinda (2009), Diva, Kokak, My

Beloved, Forever, Indio, Carmela, The Borrowed Wife, Paraiso Ko'y Ikaw and Niño.

In 2000, Gian joined Audie Gemora’s theater company, Trumpets Inc., for which he appeared in the musicals The Little Mermaid (2000-2001) and Joseph the Dreamer. For

Stages, he played Willard Hewitt in Footloose (2004) and Riff in West Side Story (2009).
