Google classified information on the web first by finding it, then performing the “PageRank” algorithm. This relied on a new technology which examined relevance of backlinks the connected a Web page to another. This system was far superior to other search engines. There was actually a search engine created before Google, by Page and Brin, technically found in 1996, actually being named “BackRub”, meaning to operate on the servers of Page and Brin’s university, Stanford University. However when the search engine took up too much bandwidth for the university, they created a new one in 1998, naming it “Google” inspired from the number googol, equal to a 1 followed by 100 zeroes, claiming this term reflects their mission to organize a seemingly infinite amount of information on the internet. He was also taught how to take things apart by his older brother, and before long, he was taking everything apart in his home just to see how it worked. So probably from when I was 12 I knew I was going to start a company eventually.” Page attended a Montessori school in Lansing, and proudly graduated from East Lansing High School. Page recieved a Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering from the University of Michigan, and a Masters degree in Computer Science from Stanford University. Whilst at the University of Michigan, Page’s computing skills stood out, him creating an inkjet printer from Lego, serving as the president of the “HKN”, and becoming a member of the solar car team. Page considered pursuing the interesting mathematical properties of the internet, or the World Wide Web, in which he understood its link structure similar to a huge graph . In 1995, during a spiring orientation for new computer science Ph.D students, Page met with Brin for the first time. Brin was assigned to show some students around the campus, having a two year experience. Later they created a good friendship. In 1998, Page and Brin found Google, Page and Brin running Google with Page as co-president, until they hired Eric Schmidt as CEO and Chairman of Google, three years later, in 2001.
