B. COURSE INFORMATION:
Course Description: The nursing management process as it relates
to the associate degree nursing student will be introduced and utilized
within the nursing process.
One credit theory, two credits clinical. Offered spring semester only.
Prerequisites: Admission to the Nursing Program.

METHOD OF INSTRUCTION:
Lecture, discussion, demonstration, small group work, videos, assigned readings,
written assignments, and clinical instruction will be utilized.
THEORY EVALUATION:
Evaluation of student progress will be the successful completion of the course
outcomes this will be evaluated with classroom participation, in class change
presentation; I made a difference paper, and three online discussion responses.
Questions will be based on utilization of critical thinking skills and application of
knowledge acquired in this, as well as previous courses. Students are expected
to attend all classroom and clinical hours. Come to class prepared to share
insight into scheduled topics. Points will be earned based on a positive,
respectful attitude, participation, and attendance.
CLINICAL EVALUATION:
Clinical evaluation is done mutually by student, preceptor, and instructor
throughout the 90 hours of clinical. Actual clinical performance and written
assignments include: Mentorship Essential Skills and Performance during
Preceptor/Mentorship will be used to determine clinical competency and the
ability to generalize and transfer theory outcomes to the clinical settings. Safe
clinical practice and demonstration of personal and associate degree nursing
practice attributes at the fourth semester level are mandatory for graduation of
the program.

ed.). Revised Edition. St. Louis, MO: W.B. Saunders Co.
***Please plan on using the Drug book, and Lab & Diagnostic book, and Nursing
Diagnosis Book of your choice. You also may find it helpful to use your
Fundamentals and Pharmacology books as references.

GRADING POLICY AND CRITERIA:
If you do not complete the course and do not formally withdraw by the drop
deadline, your instructor will automatically assign you a grade of "F". Drop
deadline is April 20, 2014.
Course grade will be based on a percentage of the total possible points of theory
and clinical assignments according to the following scale:

Course work must be completed with an average of 76% or better to pass the
course.
Late theory and clinical assignments will be worth 50% of the actual grade.
If an assignment is more than one week late, a zero will be given for the
assignment but submission of the assignment is still required.

ATI EXAM INFORMATION:
RN Leadership Assessment:
This 65-item test offers an assessment of the student’s basic comprehension and
mastery of leadership and management principles. Assessed concepts include: 1) client
and staff advocacy (advance directives, client rights, information technology, ethical
practice, informed consent, legal rights/responsibilities); 2) provider of client care
(resource management, safe use of equipment, handling infectious and hazardous
materials, injury prevention, security plans, reporting incidents, priority setting); 3)
supervisor of client care (assigning, delegating and supervising, conflict resolution, staff
development and performance improvement, time management); and 4)
collaborator/planner of client care (disaster and emergency management, collaboration
with interdisciplinary team, continuity of care, case management and discharge
planning). A significant focus of this assessment is the student’s decision-making skills
with regard to delegation and priority setting. The student has 65 minutes to complete
this assessment.
RN Comprehensive Predictor:
This 180-item test offers an assessment of the student’s comprehension and
mastery of basic principles including fundamentals of nursing, pharmacology,
adult medical‑surgical nursing, maternal newborn care, mental health nursing, nursing
care of children, nutrition, leadership, and community health nursing. The percentage
of questions from all major NCLEX® client need categories (management of care, safety
and infection control, health promotion and maintenance, psychosocial integrity, basic
care and comfort, pharmacological and parenteral therapies, reduction of risk potential,
and physiological adaptation) will be similar to the percentage of questions on the
NCLEX-RN®. This test will generate the following data: Individual Score (% Correct),
Predicted Probability to Pass NCLEX-RN®, National and Program Means, Individual
Scores (% Correct) within Content Topic Categories, Topics to Review, and Individual
Scores (% Correct) within an Outcome (Thinking Skills, Nursing Process, Priority
Setting, NCLEX-RN® Client Need Categories, Clinical Areas, QSEN and Remediation
Template). The student has 180 min (3 hr) to complete this assessment.
DOSAGE CALCULATION TEST:
No Dosage Calculation exam to be completed in this course.
