The President of the United States What does the President of the United States do? The President of the United States has seven different responsibilities. The Seven Responsibilities of the President Commander in Chief Chief of State Chief Executive Chief Diplomat Chief Legislator Guardian of the Economy Chief of Party The President of the United States is Commander in Chief The President is the leader of the American military. He leads the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Marines. Example The President of the United States is Chief of State The President is the leader of our nation and represents our country. Example The President of the United States is Chief Executive The President enforces the laws of our nation, and chooses officials to work for the Executive Branch. Example The President of the United States is Chief Diplomat The President creates the foreign policy of the United States.
