To inculcate and instill this abstractness of mathematics into a conclave reality, Apeejay School Kolkata in association with CBSE organized a weeklong series of workshops and hands on activities for the students to eliminate the fear and myth the surrounds the subject under the topic GANIT WEEK The 1st day of the Ganit week begin with a lecture on Mathematics by eminent professor Dr.Mihir Kr Chakroborty visiting professor school of cognitive science of Jadavpur University Kolkata students of classes 9 to 11 participated in the workshop conducted by the professor and the topic for the day was “Understanding numbers shops representation and reasoning”. He spoke about the famous Indian Mathematics Srivinas Ramanujan and how he contributed in the field of cognitive Science in India. He spoke about Ramanunjan Magical number 1729.Which was a taxi number of his mentor Hardy. The digits of the number 1729 on adding give 19 which divides the number itself. A series of events followed from the next day for all the classes class 9 to 10 sat for an essay writing competition on “the miracle Mathematician –Ramanunjan”.the subject matter of the essay written by the students comprised of Ramanunjan’s prime and theta factors. They also enlightened us that Ramanunjan was the pioneer in solving magic Interpreting theorems in his own logical eay.Students also wrote that Ramanunjan’s sense of mathematics was 1st developed from a Book by GS Kar.he begin his research in Mathematics 1900 upto 15 decimal places. Day 3 begin with an Inter House Quiz for classes 5 and 6.Questions were based on logical thinking, analytical reasoning and creative understanding. Some of the questions were as follows 1.Find the value of P if P+1=Q Q+1=R P+Q=15 Q+R=17 2. If ‘rain’ is called ‘Read’,’Read is called ‘Water’,’Water is called ‘cloud’ ‘cloud is called ‘sky’ ‘Sky’ is called ‘Sea’ and ‘Sea is called ‘path’ where do aeroplane fly?
