Drama Vocabulary
House- inside the theatre
Front of House- lobby of the theatre
Houselights- the lights in the house
Wings- off stage area to left and right
Grid- steel framework above audience and stage for hanging lights, sound and effects
Backstage- area behind stage
Business- any movements an actor makes without moving across the stage deck
Blocking- Any movements an actor makes across the stage deck
Set- Objects placed on a stage to represent setting in a story. These objects do not move
Black Box Theatre- Big Black box, can be configured to put stage and audience anywhere

Traps- A hole in the deck of the stage for moving props/actors/sets on and off
4th wall- imaginary wall that divides the audience form the stage, it divides reality from fantasy
Props- objects actors use on stage to tell stories
Cue- signal for you to do your job (act, run lights, run sound etc..)
Curtain call- The bow. allows the audience to voice appreciation
Script- story includes dialogue, cues, characters, blocking, business
Improvisation- performing spontaneously without a plan or rehearsal.
