Above all, I feel that I could incorporate this technology into my class in a variety of ways. For instance, I feel that PowerPoint can be used for any topic (such as Gandhi used in this presentation) for lecture and presentation purposes. However, after creating my own PowerPoint slide show, I feel that I could also allow students to create their own as well. In this instance, I could have a final assessment in which students could create a PowerPoint presentation outlining different examples of civil disobedience from United States history. Students could work in groups, and in a modified Jigsaw present the material they organized into a slide show to other groups or to the class as a whole. PowerPoint would have certain instructional implications that I would have to consider before utilizing it in any class. If used to display information in a lecture format, PowerPoint could appeal to highly organized individuals and to visual learners. I found that PowerPoint offers myself and others a single place with which to hold an abundance of information--here, I have a system of organization that incorporates graphics, lists, assignments, web addresses and information notes into a cohesive whole. This could help students who crave, or even need work on organizational skills. However, time constraints make me hesitant in utilizing this technology. I believe I would need to “feel out” my class to determine how well they would react to creating something out of this type of technology. This being the case, I do feel that I could create careful placements in partners or groups that could make the situation beneficial to all. For instance, a “tech guru” could be placed with a “content guru” to maximize on both students’ abilities. Overall, I feel that in taking into consideration the needs of my class and the time constraints on our classroom time, I could determine the best possible way to integrate PowerPoint into my classroom in some way.
