I assisted in setting up the Beaudesert Toastmasters club. If anyone is interested in learning how to run meetings using correct parliamentary procedure, and how to speak in front of a group to really get your message across. How to use exactly the right words and think on your feet, how to gain confidence in front of a crowd and reduce the number of Ummmm.s and Aaaahhhhh…s, then come visit Beaudesert
Toastmasters. They don’t bite. Phone Louise 0416687860 or ask me for details. Its free for Visitors.
First and Third Tuesdays 5:15PM to 7:30PM at the Centre Beaudesert.
Do you remember those crazies dancing in the rain at the PCYC show? Yes?
- that was Pam and I, and some mates. You can easily learn to Rock and
Roll. Village Rockers Inc. holds a R&R dance every 6 weeks at Cedar Creek
Hall from 7:30 to 11:00PM. Next dance is 16 August (this Friday). Public welcome - $5.00 Bring a plate if you are inclined to. Music is great 50s and
60s and you can even bring your own Rock and Roll USB stick. Someone will help you get started. 0418717492 for details.
I guess everyone is over the rain and cancelled rides, but what can you do??
I was looking forward to the Laverda Concours, but at least it was not cancelled completely, but has only been postponed to 18 August ……… same day we have a ride to Montville/Mapleton for Crafts and Coffee.................great!!!!
If you don’t want to join the Nimbin Ride and feel like you need a little exercise, you can register for the
Bridge to Brisbane 10k run. You can join my team, called “WTF”. We have already raised $200.00 for the Cancer Council. You don’t really need to join in and run to feel good, you can just make a donation to my facebook donation page instead and still feel just as good.

Harley Davidson Topper. One Harley most wouldn’t recognise as a member of the
HD family is the rare circa 1963 Topper, it’s the only scooter the company ever produced. Powered by a 165 cc single-cylinder two-stroke engine running through a
CVT automatic transmission. Thanks for this article GT.
Have you had your annual medical checkup this year? It is recommended that senior men have a checkup every 12 months. It will include a blood test to check PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen). It’s not a perfect test, but a pretty good indication of Prostate health. The finger in the bum is a bit intrusive so many doctors don’t do that now without a reason.
I changed to working 4 day weeks, and decided to take more time for rides. I planned a weekend away because Pam had missed the Brass Monkey Ride due to Bronchitis. We left early Saturday AM heading out under clear blue skies through Beaudesert, then Rathdowney and on through Palen Creek towards Kyogle. The road was excellent and the riding perfect. Pam is a perfect and helpful pillion and often makes encouraging suggestions about the speedometer reading, in case I might have missed it. We stopped at
Grevillia, a tiny town without a pub, but with a gallery that had a “coffee” sign out the front. We met Fred, an interesting guy who told us about a motorcycle rally held there just a week before.
He showed me his 10kW solar installation and batteries. His house and Gallery are all powered by solar charged batteries. We enjoyed a look through the Gallery and a coffee. Pam petted the miniature donkeys while Fred told us all about the rallys they hold and how he is setting up a motorcycle museum. After a long break there, we headed on to Casino then Tenterfield for a bite to eat. Eventually we arrived at Giraween National Park and noted the walking tracks etc, for next trip because it was too late to climb bald mountain that day. You would need many days to even partly explore Giraween. A lot of money has been spent recently on concrete paths, barbeques and toilet facilities in the picnic area.
We arrived in Stanthorpe just in time to get the last room at the motel and enjoyed a great dinner at a local restaurant. Next morning we needed to leave early to be at Popeye and Auto’s for our 12:00 appointment. The temperature leaving Stanthorpe was ZERO degrees at 7AM, and felt just a tad cool as we started off. My heated grips were working overtime, but we both felt quite OK and not too cold. I had
Kevlar jeans, but they are not quite up to zero degrees. The Honda’s fairing provides good protection. It was a great ride back, with the mandatory stop at Aratula for coffee, then on to Pam’s to pick up her bike so she could ride back to Popeye’s. We covered about 580k overall.

With the previous weeks wet weather postponing the Laverda
Concours ride , and this day so crystal clear it was decided to not to let it go to waste. With a small posse of Five bikes we headed off for the GOLD Coast hinterland. Heading out to Canungra for a stop at the new coffee shop next to the park, the girls found a comfy lounge out on the deck, while us men plotted our next section. Once we got the girls up motivated we headed on up to Beechmont. Winding through the absolutely breathtaking scenery of Beechmont and surrounds, we found our way down into Nerang and with a short squirt up the motorway we arrived at the Gem Hotel at Alberton for our lunch stop. Once here we met up with
Gav and Chrissy who joined us for lunch. The meals and service were exceptional….. except the wrong meal arrived at the table for Pony…. THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU
LET A CLOWN ORDER FOR YOU. With some friendly banter and photos taken we all headed back to the carpark to head on home. Even though it was a short ride 160km, all those that came along had a great time and left us with the afternoon to attend to pressing issues such as getting one with the lounge, grocery shopping etc. Guess which one I chose….

Blessed with another perfect day five intrepid riders turned out for the
Eumundi ride. Leaving Browns plains just after 8.00am we decided to head straight up the highway to Eumundi so we could enjoy the most time possible shop, shop, shopping. With a short stop at Burpengary BP for coffee….did I say COFFEE, well after a kind gesture by Jaffa to shout the illustrious ride leader a nice hot cup of COFFEE and whilst patiently waiting and thinking how nice that COFFEE would be, Jaffa returned with…. Her own COFFEE and stuff the poor old ride leader!!!! She was off with the fairies thinking about shopping she was going to do. I think there should be a fine in there somewhere.
Back on the bikes after I finally finished my COFFEE.. that I had to go and get myself… we were back on our way to Eumundi. On arrival in Eumundi it became apparent we were not the only ones out enjoying the sunshine… The place was packed. To cover more ground we split up into small recon groups meeting now and then at cross roads and in shady lanes.
With scent of German sausage and various other culinary delights filling the air, it was time to wander over to the Imperial Hotel for lunch. We enjoyed a cold ale and some great food while discussing the plight of those not able to join us for such a wonderful day. Now, with a topped up tank (Belly) it was time to head for home and rather than just head straight back the way we came, it was decided to take the less travelled route via Beerwah through to
Woodford. What a great decision this was, with the dapple sun filtering through the trees over a near perfect road surface and every now and then a break in the trees revealing the broad expanse of the glasshouse mountains scenery; This is why we live in Queensland.
Making our way back to the Burpengary BP for a top up of fuel and rest our weary behinds, we said our goodbye’s and headed for home. Again we had an absolutely perfect day out,
Can’t wait for the next one.

Well what a month we have had. The weather has been spot on, we have had some very pleasant rides and got to meet some new people and in general spread the word that we are a fun loving bunch.
Over the past two months our branch has been involved in three community events namely the PCYC Show ‘n’ Shine, Mater little miracles and Kooralbyn scout group. All these events were well represented and those of us that made it along had an absolute ball. It is great to see we, as a branch are willing to give a little more than we take and as a result, lifting the profile of ourselves, our branch and the motorcycling fraternity. All those involved should and do feel a great sense of achievement and fulfilment, not to mention having a great time with friends and doing what we love… riding bikes.
I was fortunate to speak with Marika, the co-ordinator for the PCYC show after the event and she wishes to pass on her most sincere thanks to our branch for making her day a little easier and a little brighter.
Talking with Sergeant Terry Armstrong of Jimboomba police and the driving force behind Mater Little Miracles wishes to extend his heartfelt thanks and admiration for our part in making the Little miracles walk such a huge success raising around $9000.00 for the less fortunate children. As a club we should stand proud knowing that our small sacrifices go such a long way to make our part of the world a little brighter.
Now that I have got you all fired up and ready to ride… we have some great rides coming up and what a jam packed calendar we have.
18 th August Monteville/Mapleton. A beautiful ride through the sunshine coast hinterland visiting some quirky shops around the Monteville precinct and then on to Mapleton for café lunch.8.00-8.30 leave.
25 th August Inter-branch Cartwheel ride. Basically what this means is each branch will organise their own starting ride with all branches converging at
Aratula Hotel for lunch. As we are preparing of our inaugural Poker Run in
September this will make the perfect opportunity to have a practice run for the first two legs of the journey and fine tune if required. 8.00-8.30 leave.
As for September it is jam packed with some great events including a run down to Hippy town, Redlands Show ‘n’ Shine, Memorial Ride to Somerset, The
Poker Run, Socials at Jaffa’s and Grizzly’s finishing the month with a mystery ride even the ride leader has no idea.
Our market raffle days will also need support so if you can spare and hour or two please let Jaffa know. Even this type of outing is quite a social event, meeting new people, spreading the word of how much fun it is to belong to a club which bases itself around FUN and local community.
WANTED: Ride leaders new or old (No age pun intended) who have a sense of direction (Any sense will do like common….), like being the first to be smacked in the face with bugs etc. It is a great sense of achievement, guiding a group to a good location and being able to find your way home again… which means you are still in control of your faculties.
Anyway I think I have rambled on long enough other than to say I am proud to be associated with such a weird likeminded bunch as you and look forward to many more happy miles.

With an early start on a beautiful Sunday morning, a group of 12 or more bikes headed out to Kooralbyn markets for a rendezvous with the local scout group to help with some much needed fundraising. We had the easy task of riding the loop unlike the intrepid “first timers” climbing aboard the thundering machines for what was for most, the first time on a motorcycle ever!!. Old and young alike queued for their turn and at first the Spyders seemed to be favoured With Popeye and Adell being the flavour of the moment. As the day progressed we all began getting punters on board. It was great to see such a good turnout
of members supporting the ride as well as partners doing all the ticket sales and organising the riders for what turned out to be a well run operation.
The event was well supported by the locals and it gave them an insight to what Mt Lindesay branch is all about, not just a bunch of bikers roaming the streets harassing old ladies!!!! In general this raised their awareness to the “good side” of the greater motorcycle riding fraternity.
The day was a great success with the event raising $250.00 for the scout group and this was presented to their leader at lunchtime and again we were proud to be a part of this adventure.
Saying farewell to the locals, we headed back to Veresdale hotel for some much needed rehydration and lunch and the days ride wrapping up around 2.00pm. Congratulations to
Popeye for arranging this adventure and we all had a very enjoyable day.
PS A special Hooray to all those who backed up from the Mater Little Miracles walk on
Saturday What a huge effort. We bumped into Sergent Terry Armstrong at the Pub and he was absolutely brimming with pride and commendation for the effort our members put into the event, raising $9000.00 for the children.
Cheers

The day looked a little gloomy, but rain, hail or shine the PCYC annual
Show ’n’ Shine was going ahead. Meeting up with Marika to go over the plan for our assistance for the day, it looked like she had not slept for a week, with all the organising to make this a successful day. Our crew turned up on time and set up our stall, ready to battle the hungry hoards for our world famous “Sausage on Bread”. While the weather threatened to put a damper on the day and things were a little slow in the food department, Jaffa seized the opportunity to sell a few more raffle tickets and promote the Mt Lindesay Branch to all around.
The bike show portion, while small in numbers approximately (20 bikes) had a wide variety and high calibre of machines on show. There were bikes for all the classes and even one which really could not be categorised being custom hand built from the ground up. With the
rain letting up, the four judges did the rounds inspecting each and every machine, taking notes and conferring between each other to reach a result in all categories.
Spyder came away with Best Street Champ with his beautifully restored Yammy and I got
Best British for my Thunderbird. Now you may say the odds were stacked in our favour, however Simon from Heavy Duty Motorcycles had full control over these entries.
We had club members involved in a number of displays throughout the day with Gypsy and her crew showing “the girls have still got it” with a wonderful belly dancing display and
Popeye, Auto, Graham and Puppies joining in for the Rock n Roll dance off.
Even though the weather was not entirely kind, the event was well supported with PCYC making a healthy profit on the day and we all had a great time helping them out. Marika was so grateful for the support Mt. Lindesay branch gave on the day.
Cheers

Chuckles does excellent ride reports, but how about someone else having a go? It doesn’t need to be perfect, show us you are human. Volunteer as a ride reporter for the club’s next outing. I need at least two reports for the Montville Maleny ride please, one relating to the ride and one relating to the shopping! Are there any shopping experts out there??? You will get your photo in the
Newsletter and become famous like Chuckles!!!

A man on his Harley was riding along a California beach when suddenly the sky clouded above his head and, in a booming voice, God said,
"Because you have tried to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish."
The biker pulled over and said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want."
God replied, "Your request is materialistic; think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking; the supports required reaching the bottom of the Pacific and the concrete and steel it would take! I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of something that could possibly help mankind."
The biker thought about it for a long time. Finally, he said, "God, I wish that I, and all men, could understand women; I want to know how she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing's wrong, why she snaps and complains when I try to help, and how I can make a woman truly happy."
God replied: "……………..You want two lanes or four on that bridge...?"

My mum is 89 years old and still drives her Mazda 3 most days. She was stopped by police recently, who told her she had been doing 69 in a 50 zone and showed her the radar gun.
She explained she had never had a ticket in over 60 years of driving. The policewoman asked where she was going, “A family reunion” she replied. She was asked if she usually travelled that road and she said “No, and she was not aware it was a 50 zone”……………….
She was let off with a warning to keep an eye on her speedo and road signs from now on!
