Request for Proposals and Application Directions for KY TWS Student Development Fund The Kentucky Chapter of The Wildlife Society Student Development Fund is designed to help fund student training and research. Awards will be made in two categories: (1) Individual Research Awards, and (2) Group Awards. Group Awards are intended to fund workshops or other professional development training activities proposed by a group of students. Graduate and undergraduate students are eligible for both awards. Proposed projects must occur within Kentucky. Students from any Kentucky College or University are eligible, and students from out-of-state Colleges and Universities are eligible only if the research/project occurs in Kentucky. The submission deadline is February 22, 2016. Awards will be announced at the KY TWS annual meeting in February. Applications should be submitted electronically to Danna Baxley (danna.baxley@ky.gov) The narrative portion of the grant application must adhere to the following guidelines based on the type of proposal (individual or group) and the application for the grant carries an obligation to present at the next KY TWS meeting. 1. Application Content: Individual Research Awards Project Description (Limited to 5 pages + references cited, doubled-spaced, 12-point font) Include the following: Title Introduction including rationale (with appropriate citations) Objectives of the research Methods including data collection and analysis techniques (with appropriate citations) References cited Cover letter signed by both the student and faculty advisor including statements (1) acknowledging the obligation to report their findings at the next TWS meeting, and (2) regarding the status of Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and/or Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval for the proposed project. If the project has already been approved by the IACUC or IRB, please provide documentation. If the applicants are in the process of applying for committee approval, describe the status of the application. If the applicants feel that the project is exempt from IACUC and IRB a short explanation should be included in the cover letter. Budget Summary and Justification (limited to 1 page; single spaced acceptable) Anticipated funding is $250 this year. Funds can be used for field or lab supplies, travel, and lodging. Funds may not be used for salaries, wages, conference expenses, other registration costs, or publication costs. Non-expendable supplies/equipment will become the property of KY TWS and must be returned at the completion of the project. Please use the following budget template. You may modify by adding more specific subcategories or items. Personally accrued costs specific to the research may be listed in the other funding column. Also provide an itemized budget justification with detailed explanation of each budget item. The report should be emailed to the committee chair listed at the top of this application form. 2. Application Content: Group Awards Project Description (Limited to 5 pages + references cited, doubled-spaced, 12-point font) Include the following: Title Background information on the group including the number of students expected to participate Statement of need including the value to students and why funding from TWS is needed Expected impact of award in terms of student training and professional development Plan project including the role of students and partners in carrying out logistics and other activities. Include a section that specifically itemizes matching contributions (e.g. number of volunteer hours, resources provided by other groups) Cover letter signed by student group leader and faculty advisor including a statement acknowledging the obligation to report on the outcomes of the project at the next TWS meeting. Budget Summary and Justification (limited to 1 page; single spaced acceptable) Anticipated funding is between $250 this year.
