15. Personal Development Planning
Personal Development Planning (PDP) will be used in this programme in a number of ways to support
the development of academic, personal and professional skills.
The programme employs a varied diet of assessment, including portfolio assessment. The portfolio is
designed to help students reflect upon their skills, identify areas of strength and weakness, plan for
development and demonstrate evidence of action.
The main skills assessed and developed within the modules of the programme are indicated in the
attached Curriculum Skills Map.
16. Admissions criteria
Programme Specifications include minimum entry requirements, including academic qualifications,
together with appropriate experience and skills required for entry to study. These criteria may be
expressed as a range rather than a specific grade. Amendments to entry requirements may have
been made after these documents were published and you should consult the University’s website for
the most up to date information.
Students will be informed of their personal minimum entry criteria in their offer letter.
Entry is to different levels of the programme depending on prior qualifications and
experience.
Beginners courses are for complete beginners, for those who are returning to language- learning with
a GCSE gained 5 years ago or earlier, and for those who have previously started to learn the language
but have not attained a GCSE Grade C or equivalent.
Intermediate courses are for students who have completed the elective Beginners course or those who
have a GCSE or equivalent with a score of A*,A, B or C.
Advanced courses are for students who have completed the Intermediate elective course or those
who have an A-S level or A-level or equivalent in the language.
Students with native-speaker competence (for higher-level modules) and/or non-traditional
qualifications or evidence of experiential learning may also be admitted subject to interview. Nonnative English speakers should have IELTS 7.0 on all sub-scores (or equivalent).
