Use the timeline below to get started! September – December Take the SAT or ACT, if you haven’t already. Visit college campuses and attend college fairs. Request information packages from colleges you are most interested in. Read this guide every month for a list of all current scholarships. Applications available in the Guidance Office. Apply for admission to top choices. Attend financial aid workshops wherever available. Apply for scholarships and grants. January – March File the FAFSA and other required forms. March – April Review financial aid packages. SAT REGISTRATION Test Dates & Fees 2009-10 Test Dates and Registration Deadlines Important Information for All Test-Takers Sunday administrations usually occur the day after each Saturday test date, for students who cannot test on Saturday due to religious observance. For the test administration on October 10, the Sunday test date has been moved to October 18 to avoid conflict with the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah. The Language Tests with Listening are offered only in November. Deadlines for international test-takers are given below the tables for U.S. students. The Question-and-Answer Service (QAS) is offered only on the Saturday test dates in October and January, and for Saturday, Sunday, and school-based testing dates in May. The Student Answer Service (SAS) is available only on the test dates for which QAS is not offered—those in November, December, March, and June. It is also available for Sunday and school-based testing dates in October and January. INFORMATION AND OPPORTUNITIES TUITION REIMBURSEMENT FOR MILITARY: The 81st Legislature passed Senate Bill 297, which requires public institutions to provide a resident tuition exemption to the dependent children of certain members of the U. S. Armed Forces who are deployed on active duty in a combative military operation outside of the United States. Pick up additional information in the Guidance Office. GENERAL INFORMATION FINANCIAL AID The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the form used when applying for financial aid. This is the first step in the financial aid process. The forms cannot be mailed out before January 1, 2010 if you plan to attend college in the fall of 2010. The forms usually arrive in December. They will be made available at that time. COLLEGE APPLICATIONS AND SCHOLARSHIPS Your Counselor will help you with your college and scholarship applications. The colleges and national organizations usually have their application deadlines in the fall and local organizations are in the spring. Read carefully for all criteria and deadlines. Not doing so could cost you a scholarship or deny your entry to the college of your choice. If you would like us to mail your scholarship applications, please turn them in to the Guidance Office at least five days prior to the date they are due to their destination.
