PURPOSE:
To describe a standard operating procedure for replacement
seal/coupling tyre of refrigeration unit.

SCOPE:
The standard operating procedure describes in detail the method for replacement
of shaft oil seal/coupling tyre of refrigeration unit.
3.0
RESPONSIBILITY:
The responsibility of replacement of shaft oil seal/coupling tyre of refrigeration
unit lies with the staff of rank not lower than the junior utility operator.
The responsibility of preparing, reviewing and approving the standard operating
procedure lies with the Manager - Maintenance, Head of Production and Head of
QAD respectively.
4.0
METHOD:
4.1
Start
the compressor
and pump down the compressor as per
SOP
CHANGING/ADDITION OF OIL OF
REFRIGERATION UNIT.follow
steps 4.1 to 4.7.
4.2
Isolate the equipment electrically and keep "UNDER MAINTENANCE" board to
the main feeder.
4.3
Loosen the motor and compressor coupling flange bolts until the coupling tyre
comes out.
4.4
Remove the coupling tyre and loosen the coupling flange shaft lock nut.
4.5
Remove the compressor coupling flanges by slightly hammering.
4.6
Remove the key from the key slot.
4.7
Remove shaft seal cover plate.
4.8
Remove seal bellows assembly and seal springs.
4.9
Replace it with new seal assembly unit.
4.10
Fix shaft seal cover plate and place the key in the key slot.
4.11
Fix the coupling flanges to the compressor shaft.
4.12
Fix the new coupling tyre (if the old tyre is damaged) and tighten the flange
bolts.
4.13
Tighten the shaft lock nut.
4.14
Remove "under maintenance" board.
4.15
Restore the power supply to the equipment.
4.16
Open all the liquid line valves, suction valve, discharge valve of the compressor.
4.17
Start the compressor and observe for any leaks
repeat the steps from 4.1 to 4.16.
4.18
If only coupling tyre of compressor has to be changed. follow step 4.1 to 4.5 and
4.13 to 4.17.
5.0
RECORDING
from shaft seal. If it leaks again
The responsibility of recording the breakdown in the history card lies with the
staff of rank not lower than the maintenance supervisor.
