The English Colonies Project
Directions: In the early 1600’s, England successfully established its first permanent settlement in
Jamestown. With Jamestown’s success, more English colonists settled along the coast of the Atlantic
Ocean in North America establishing 13colonies. Although each colony was different, historians have
categorized the colonies into three groups: New England, Middle and Southern. Each group of colonies
shared similar economic, political social and geographical characteristics. Your task is to identify those
characteristics of the colonies and present them in the form of a brochure.
TASK:
a. Identify the economic, political social and geographical characteristics of the New England, Middle
and Southern colonies.
b. Create a brochure that would entice people to leave Europe and settle in the North American
colonies.
FORMAT:
a. Pick either Microsoft word or publisher. Each program has a brochure template. Look through
both programs and decide which one you want to use.
b. Your brochure should include;
a. Title Page with name
b. A page dedicated to each section of the colonies
c. A map page of the 13 Colonies with label
d. All information written using complete sentences
e. A general information page stating why the 13 colonies is a good choice
