UCC Online Student Contract
I understand I must devote at least 10 hours per week on each 3-credit course
for which I am registered online.
I commit to login, at minimum, to my online course(s) at least once per week.
I understand I must check UCC Online (MOODLE) daily for changes in
schedules, new assignments, announcements and or reminders from UCC or
my instructor(s).
I commit to post/participate in all discussions for every week and as many
times as required by each lecturer, by the given deadlines.
I understand that if I fail to post or participate in discussion forum, I may not
be graded.
I understand I am required to read (listen or view) all course material relevant
to my course(s) on UCC Online (MOODLE). Such course materials include
PowerPoint presentations, lecture notes, video or audio links or e-links.
I will meet the additional participation requirements provided by my online
Instructor (s).
I am responsible for sourcing my books, software and any other required
items for online course(s) in a timely manner.
I am responsible for reading all required textbooks identified for the course(s)
and other recommended material supplied by the instructor(s).
I understand that it is my responsibility to plan way ahead, get started early
and submit all assignments on time.
I understand that Chat Sessions are conducted in ‘real time’ and that I am
required to participate in Chat Sessions.
I understand I may communicate with my online instructors via the
“MESSAGE” feature on UCC Online (MOODLE) and that I will not contact
my instructors outside of their scheduled “office hours”.
I understand I must only use my UCC email account to communicate with my
instructor(s) and UCC.
I understand that I must check daily for emails from my UCC Online
coordinator.
I understand that it is my responsibility to use the information provided at
http://ucc.edu.jm/ucconline and the UCC Online link to log into my course on
the start date of my class, not before.
I am comfortable with the skills needed to succeed in an online course
(logging into a course with correct username and password), sending emails
with attachments; posting in discussion boards; updating my virus protection
software; and finding resources on the Internet.
If I register late for my class, I will contact the instructor for all questions and
concerns and allow 24 hours for access to the course.
I am responsible for ensuring my computer has adequate virus protection
software and correct browser settings.
I understand that, if a course is offered in an accelerated format, the time
necessary to achieve the course learning outcomes will be greater than that
required for a traditional class.
I will inform my instructor and Online coordinator of absences that I
anticipate over the duration of my course(s).
Should I decide to drop my online course(s), I understand it is my
responsibility to contact and advise my UCC Online coordinator at
ucconline@ucc.edu.jm and my online instructor.
I agree to use language appropriate to an academic setting in my online
discussion postings, chats and emails related to my online course.
I understand that information exchanged among students in my online course
should be considered confidential and not shared outside of the online course.
I understand some of my publicly submitted course postings or comments will
be seen or re-used for other students to see.
If I have any questions or need clarification of the assignments or course
content, I will contact my instructor.
I understand that some mid-module exams may be conducted as face-to-face
exams and that all end-of-module exams are proctored face-to-face exams.
I understand that I am required to attend on the dates, times and locations
indicated for all scheduled exams at the designated exam sites.
I will familiarize myself with the UCC Student Academic Calendar and UCC
Student Handbook.
I understand that ANY computer with Internet access (including UCC campus
computers) can be used to continue coursework and “home computers” being
serviced will not be accepted as a reason for not completing coursework,
tests, or assignments.
I agree that by logging into UCC Online I will abide by all UCC Online
policies and user guidelines and that inappropriate use of UCC
communication features (including but not limited to plagiarism, harassment,
unlawful solicitation, distribution of material generally considered
pornographic or offensive, or submitting comments which undermine the
integrity of the instructional process) is strictly prohibited and may result in
disciplinary action.
I will immediately inform in writing the University via my Online coordinator
of any change in address or personal contact information. Where this change
of location or address or telephone contact is likely to affect the sitting of my
examinations, I will notify the UCC Online unit at ucconline@ucc.edu.jm at
least 4 weeks prior to the commencement of such examinations.
