Anatomy & Physiology Portfolio In order to demonstrate the knowledge you will learn during the course of this biology class, you will assemble a portfolio of evidence of your work. The portfolio will be a final test grade collected at the end of each semester (December and May) prior to your final exam. The writing assignments will be completed as homework assignments throughout the year and polished for the final product. The contents of your portfolio should be in the following order: Title page with a title, your name, and your period Table of Contents Expectations/Goals Essay Scientific Processes/Nature of Science section o Personal Reflection essay o Pieces of evidence Structure organization o Personal Reflection essay o Pieces of evidence Homeostasis and Basic Chemistry of the body o Personal Reflection essay o Pieces of evidence Integumentary System and Body Membranes o Personal Reflection essay o Pieces of evidence Skeletal System and Joints o Personal Reflection essay o Pieces of evidence Muscular System o Personal Reflection essay o Pieces of evidence Nervous system o Personal Reflection essay o Pieces of evidence Endocrine system o Personal Reflection essay o Pieces of evidence Cardiovascular system o Personal Reflection essay o Pieces of evidence Lymphatic system and immunity o Personal Reflection essay o Pieces of evidence Respiratory system o Personal Reflection essay o Pieces of evidence Digestive system and urinary system o Personal Reflection essay o Pieces of evidence Reproductive system o Personal Reflection essay o Pieces of evidence Summative Assessment Each essay should be typed, double spaced, in 12 point Times New Roman font with 1” margins all around. The heading should be just your name and the title. It should be no less than one full page and no more than two full pages. The rough drafts will be graded as a 20 point homework completion grade. The final draft should be turned in with the portfolio at the end of each semester. Expectations/goals essay: A) why someone should study biology (high school graduation requirement is NOT an acceptable reason) B) what you think you already know about Anatomy/Physiology C) what you hope to learn during this class, and D) why you think Anatomy/Physiology is important to you personally, etc. **This is due on Friday, August 24. Personal reflection essay: A) should discuss what you learned during each unit B) how it can be applied to your every day life C) provide a brief summary of three pieces of evidence you chose to represent the unit D) and why you chose them. **They are due on the day of the test for that unit. Summative assessment/essay: Semester Reflection: 1. Provide a written reflection about the semester. A) Summarize major concepts you learned during the semester B) Provide information about and investigation/activity that went well and one that did not work. Include insights on how it could have been improved. C) What was the best example of arriving at a new understanding of something. Support your answer with evidence (lab, assignment, project) D) One thing that you studied that you still do not fully understand. E) A sudden insight, a time during the year when ‘a light bulb went on’ and you suddenly understood something that you previously did not. F) Choose two labs/activities/topics/lessons from different units of the semester, how where the biology topics in these two things connected/related? G) Choose a lesson/assignment/topic discussion that reveals the impact of biology on society. H) Discuss a lesson/assignment/lab/discussion that reveals the relevance of biology to your life. I) Explain how one major concept or skill that you learned that will help you in your future. J) Discuss a topic that you most enjoyed learning about and why? 2. Letter to future Anatomy/Physiology student: This letter should provide suggestions you might have for future biology students on what to expect in Biology class and tips on how to succeed. Provide some ins-and-outs of class as well as what worked and didn’t work for you in hopes future students to enter class feeling excited and welcomed. The pieces of evidence will be completed homework assignment, lab, project, or picture of project if it won’t fit in the portfolio. The portfolio should be contained in a 3-ring binder in a neat manner. The final portfolio is due the week of your finals in December and May. **Place this page in front of all your sections as a reference.
