Introduction : • Nowadays, it is relevant to be conscious, as a future teacher,that you must be concerned about the new methods or ways of teaching. • Thus,the following activities would be focused in Christmas time for students of first grade in high school and its duration is around 90 minutes. • The following activities are thought to help students to share their own experiences, learn new vocabulary and do the class more interactive in order to make it meaningful and easily to remember. PRE ACTIVITIES. Pre Activity 1: “Warming Up” • Topic: Talking about Christmas Time. • Objective: The students will share different points of view about christmas time and will improve their speaking and use of english. Level : High school. Materials: Nothing is needed. Time: 5 Minutes Activity’s Description: The teacher will make general questions about christmas time in order to generate fluent conversations or discussions inside de classroom to promote the use of language in a more natural way. The teacher could ask: 1.- What do yo do for christmas time with your family? 2.- What do yo enjoy of christmas time? 3.- why do you think christmas time is considered so special? 4.- Do you know how is christmas time celebrated all over the world? 5.- What typical things we do at christmas time? Pre Activity 2: • Topic : Christmas Carols. • Objective: Improve auditory comprehension and learn new vocabulary related to christmas time. • Level : High school. • Materials: A radio,the audio tape with a christmas carol, a sheet of paper with the lyrics of a christmas carol incomplete and a pen. Time: 15 Minutes. • Activity : The students are going to complet the lyrics of a christmas carol while they are listening to it. The teacher is going to reproduce the christmas carol twice and then he will check the correct song’s lyrics together with the students. While Activity 1: • Topic: Christmas story. • Objective: Improve reading comprehension, increase vocabulary and analysis of words in context. • Level: High school. • Materials: A sheet of paper with the christmas story and the questions retaled to the text. • Time: 30 Minutes. • Activity: The teacher will give the students a story related to christmas time and some questions to answer in order to make comments at the end,when all the students have finished the activity. Objective: Improve writing. Level: High school. Materials: A piece of paper and a pen. Time: 20 Minutes. Activity: The teacher would ask students to pretend they have pen pals in foreign countries. Their pen pals celebrate Christmas (or other holidays) in a way very different than they might do. Invite students to write letters to their pen pals to explain how their families celebrate the holidays. Post Activity 1: • Topic : Gifts for Christmas Time. • Objective : This activity will help the students to develop different skills as their creativity,imagination and handicraft. It also will increase their vocabulary. • Level : High school . • Materials : The students will need a piece of paper, colored pencils,glue and scissors. • Time : 10 Minutes. Giving of themselves is a great gift idea. Students might: The teacher would create a simple "coupon" or "gift certificate" form that children can fill in and give as a gift. The form should provide spaces labeled TO:, FROM:, and MY GIFT TO YOU:. Students might want to brainstorm gift ideas (ie., raking the yard, babysitting, serving breakfast in bed) before filling out their gift certificates. Post Activity 2: Topic: Performing a christmas carol. Objective: The objective is for the students to put into practice the vocabulary learned and their pronunciation. Level: High school. Materials: A piece of paper and a pen. Time: 10 Minutes. Activity: The teacher would ask the students to form groups of four people to create a christmas carol and then perform it like a professional chorus , singing in front of the classroom. Finally, they will explain why they chose that lyrics and which new words they included in the song. Conclusion: Planning lessons sometimes can be seen has something very stressful for teachers but now that you can use these new resources to find interesting activities in order to make better your teaching, it is supossed to be a little more relaxing. Furthermore,I could realise that each of the activities that I have chosen develop different skills in the students and that is the importance of planning, because the teacher must be concious of what contents the students needs to acquire and which is the best method to teach them.
