Birth of the SPC RN to BSN Program Need for Program • Extreme shortage of registered nurses • SPC BSN was projected to and has increased enrollment in the SPC AS so we are graduating more RNs • BSN provides a higher level of critical thinking needed to make increasingly complex nursing judgments BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN NURSING RN Completion Program Only • Students must already be registered nurses • Can be either AS or hospital diploma graduates Seamless articulation with prior nursing education Delivered at HEC, or off site locations - Morton Plant Mease Hospital, Oakhill Hospital, BayVista, and currently at Bayonet Point Admission Criteria Registered Nurse Current, valid, unrestricted, unencumbered nursing license Completion of SPC and Baccalaureate applications St. Petersburg College Enrollment goals initially were 50 students for the first two admissions Actual enrollments exceed projections by 15 to 50 students per admission Current enrollment numbers are ~ 330 College of Nursing Faculty Dean - PhD in Nursing All full time faculty - PhD in Nursing Adjunct faculty - PhD and MSN Curriculum • Transfer lower division credits • 40 upper division credits to be taken by student (may transfer 10) • Must meet SPC AA general education requirements • Must meet foreign language requirement • 121 credits for degree RN to BSN Coursework Professional Roles and Dimensions Pathophysiology Nursing in a Multicultural Society Health Assessment Family Theory Family Practicum Nursing Research Community Health Community Health Practicum Legal Ethical Leadership Theory Leadership Practicum Nursing Elective Course Delivery HEC home campus for BSN students Classroom August 2002 Totally Online August 2003 Classes at HEC or other sites • Bayonet Point Fall 2006 Designed for working adults Adult Learning Model Courses taken one at a time Attend all day Each course will last 4-10 weeks depending on number of credits Assigned outcomes used to guide clinical experiences Financial Aid Available to all students via the SPC web site; and at HEC Nursing specific Scholarships available via the SPC general web site; and on the nursing web site and Commons Tuition reimbursement Accreditation Regionally Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) Nationally Accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc.
