examples. (3x5, handwritten, front & back – must be turned in with answers). You do not need
citations. Bring your SSR book to read if you finish early.
Directions: Answer each question with a nice paragraph (4-6 sentences). Include examples from The
Odyssey where appropriate. You do not need citations. Try to include TIQA – topic sentence,
introduce quote/example, analyze. You may use your Cornell Notes and your notecard. These must
be answered by the end of the class period today.
1. If you had to advertise Odyssey, the movie which description would you use – horror, adventure, or
romance? Why?
2. Is Odysseus a puppet of the gods or the master of his own fate? How much of what happens
(success and failure) is his responsibility and how much can be ‘blamed’ on the gods?
3. Is Odysseus to blame for the death of his men? Consider: Men eaten by Polyphemus, Elpenor,
Scylla, and destruction of the ship after eating the cattle of the sun-god. You may find him ‘guilty’ or
‘not guilty’ for each individual situation.

and what it tells us about Ancient Greek society. – Hubris, Prophecy, Hospitality, Respect to the
