Course Structure
 Unit 1: The health and development of Australia’s
youth
 Unit 2: Individual human development and health
issues
 Each Unit involves at least 50 hours of scheduled classroom
instruction
VCAA Assessment
 Satisfactory completion of a Unit is based on the
achievement of the set of Outcomes for the Unit.
 Decision based on teacher assessment.
 ‘Teachers must provide courses that provide
opportunities for students to demonstrate
achievement of Outcomes.’
VCAA Assessment
 Satisfactory achievement for Units 1 & 2
will be reported as an S or an N.
 Procedures for the assessment of Units
1 & 2 are a school decision. Check your
school requirements and expectations
early.
Unit 1
 Area of Study 1
 ‘Students develop understanding of the concepts of youth health and
individual human development, and explore the interrelationships
that exist within and between them. Students become aware of the
differing methods for measuring health status and develop a greater
understanding of the health status of youth.’ (HHD Study Design, VCAA
pg 13)
 Outcome 1
 ‘… be able to describe the dimensions of, and the interrelationships
within and between, youth health and individual human development,
an analyse the health status of Australia’s youth using appropriate
measurements.’ (HHD Study Design, VCAA pg 14)

Collaborate, held on Thursday March 6 from 3:30pm – 4:30pm AEST. A microphone headset and
access to Blackboard Collaborate is required. Hear from two young melanoma survivors who will
share their story about how skin cancer can be a young person’s disease.
