Pet Peeve Speech Requirements 1. You must include an introduction. This introduction should grab the attention of the audience. Make sure you clearly state what your topic is. 2. You must include a conclusion. Restate what your topic was and why it annoyed you so much. 3. Make sure you are organized. I will be checking to see if you developed your topic by explaining why your pet peeve annoys you. When did you develop this pet peeve? Why does it still exist? Were your main points easy to follow? 4. Make sure your style of delivery is effective. I’ll be examining your rate of speech, posture, nervous habits, vocal variety, enthusiasm, eye contact, grammar, and other points of delivery. 5. I will also be checking to see if you met the time limit of 2 to 3 minutes. 6. You MUST turn in an outline of your speech. This should have your main points explained on it. Write down comments you plan to make during your introduction and conclusion. If you do not have an outline, I will deduct 10 points from your grade. 7. You will also be graded on your listening skills as well, so be polite to other speakers. Sample outline I’ve had my pet peeve ever since I started driving. I really get annoyed when people are inconsiderate drivers. I try to be considerate of other people, so I think other people should too. Not pulling off on the shoulder when you’re driving slow, not signaling when you’re turning, and pulling out in front of oncoming traffic are the three things that I hate the most. I. II. III. IV. Slow traffic A. not pulling over B. riding the line C. causing a traffic jam Failure to signal A. dangerous B. inconsiderate Pulling out into oncoming traffic A. dangerous B. inconsiderate My reactions A. anger B. frustration C. vocal Poor driving habits of other drivers is what really upsets me the most. Not only is it dangerous, it is inconsiderate to other people. People should think about others instead of themselves all the time. It would be safer for everyone. I’m tired of people pulling out in front of me, not pulling over on the shoulder of the road, and not signaling. I hope all of you will consider this when you are driving.
