Remember this is a 2 variable project. Both variables should be quantitative.
Describe your individuals, explanatory variable, and response variable.
I would to conduct an observational study to see if there is a relationship between the weight of
a person’s backpack and the number of AP or Honors classes they are taking. The explanatory
variable is the number of AP or honors classes, and the response variable is the weight of the
backpack. The individuals are CHS students.
Describe your method of data collection. Be specific:
I will randomly select 7 students from each of 4 different homerooms (one from each grade)
using a 6x6 grid to select students by seat rather than by name. I will then go to the
homerooms (one day per HR). On 4 different days I will carry a digital scale and weigh the
backpacks of those students I have selected during homeroom. I will select two extra students
from each homeroom in case some choose not to participate. I will have them record their
number of AP or honors classes in a column next to the weight of their backpack.
