Overall Structure
Circulatory System
• the heart (cardi/o-)
• the blood vessels (-vascul/o)
• the lymphatic system (involves a fluid called
lymph)
Function
The cardiovascular system:
Carries oxygen, nutrients, vitamins, and
antibodies to the cells.
Carries waste and carbon dioxide away from
the cells.
Maintains the acid-base balance of the body,
prevents hemorrhage through blood clotting,
and helps regulate body temperature.
