UT Athletics Contributions to
The University Economy
 The Departments of Intercollegiate Athletics are 100% selfsustaining auxiliary enterprises of The University and receive no
state funds. They operate in the black.
 They operate under the same budget and university policies
as all UT auxiliary enterprises.
 UT Athletics pays The University approximately $1.8 million
in annual overhead fees.
 In 2007-08 UT Athletics contribute more than $14 million to
the UT economy in payment of tuitions, fees, housing, utilities,
parking, UTPD, recreational sports, and other entities.
UT Athletics Contributions to
The University Economy
 During the last three years, UT Athletics has given back $5.6
million to UT administration.
 The University receives approximately $500,000-600,000 in
annual interest from UT Athletics cash balances.
 The University Libraries system received $64,000 from The
University of Texas Club revenues last year.
 UT Athletics generates thousands of dollars each year for
UT’s general scholarships fund through such honors as Chevrolet
Player of the Game, etc.
NCAA Certification
In April 2008, after an eighteen-month process, the NCAA
recertified the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. This
endeavor required extensive campus-wide participation and
collaboration, including the leadership of President Bill Powers
and the following committee chairs:
Shirley Bird Perry, Steering Committee Chair
Patti Ohlendorf, Subcommittee on Governance & Commitment to Rules Compliance
Dr. Isabella Cunningham, Subcommittee on Academic Integrity
Dr. Greg Vincent, Subcommittee on Commitment to Equity & Student-Athlete Well-Being
Dr. Louis Harrison, Working Group on Minority Issues
Dr. Soncia Reagins-Lilly, Working Group on Student-Athlete Well-Being
Dr. Gretchen Ritter, Working Group on Gender Issues
The Athletics Department is grateful to Shirley Bird Perry for her time and efforts as chair
of our NCAA Certification Team.
