The relationship of consumer behavior to demand, and firm behavior to supply, in capitalistic and mixed-market systems, is overlaid Course Goals: 1. Students will demonstrate knowledge of basic economic analysis 2. Understand the market system that operates between consumers & firms, including the Elasticity of Demand & Supply, the Consumer’s Utility analysis and the Firm’s cost & profit analysis. 3. Distinguish between different market structures and the pricing involved in each of: perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition and oligopoly 4. Describe the different resource markets and interpret the demand & supply of those markets including Labor markets, Capital markets & Financial markets. 5. Explain the role of government in the economy with regards to Economic regulation, antitrust policy, providing public goods & their role in market failures. 6. Understand the issues in International trade including specialization, trade restrictions, welfare loss, and the arguments for & against trade restrictions.
