INTRODUCTION OF ABC SYSTEM AND TECHNOLOGY
The PE/ XLPE insulated cables supported itself and safe (waterproof) with
economical & less maintenance cost is replacing the obsolete bare copper and
Aluminum Conductors distribution overhead lines in Urban and Rural areas day
by day in the developed and underdeveloped countries globally.
Commonly, three types of Aerial Bundled Cables are in vogue such as:
System-1
Insulated Neutral Messenger is made with high tensile strength capability to
carry over the entire cable weight / load. The metallurgical composition used
is of Aluminum Alloy material.
The insulation all conductors is XLPE (cross linked Polyethylene).
The Cables / insulated conductors twisted together with street light cable of
16mm2 or 25mm2 sizes.
Many a countries in the Europe and Fareast adapted this system including
Pakistan and working satisfactory with.
System-2
Contrary to French, in German System, all the four cores bears equally the
overhead cable’s load tensility. The insulation material mostly used XLPE and
in some cases PE.
This System besides Germany also adopted and used by some other European
Countries.
System-3
The messenger is non-insulated and combines with XLPE / PE insulated
Aluminum phase conductors and street light single or double conductors. This
system also adopted and used by Middle East , South America , north European
countries and Australasia.
Advantages:
The PE / XLPE Insulated Aluminum Aerial Bundled cable not only proved good
to extent to reduce the bare copper and Aluminum / and electric power theft
and pilferage problem , but also reduced to negligible the electrocution
accidents , especially in rural and urban areas of under developed countries
like sub-continent, Africa and some far eastern countries.
Due to its nature of construction the LT – ABC could be installed easily &
quickly by using the old poles, trees or other wall structures with customized
fittings and accessories in a shortest possible time with safe application and
end use.
Even it falls on the ground the chances of any sort of damage and
electrocutions are very negligible.
During rainfalls and extreme weather conditions the supply of electricity can
be safely ensured with reliability without any chances of short circuiting.
Having more aesthetically proved in comparison to bare copper and aluminum
conductors which occupy more spaces horizontally and vertically.
The cost of maintenance proved very low which ultimately reduces the
distribution company’s expenditures remarkably which is to be incurred in the
shape of human resources and maintenance material application.
The water proof and insulated piercing conductor (line trap for ABC) can be
installed in the live position and have state of the art torque lock position
system.
The cost of ABC Accessories is lesser than the cost of line hardware of bare
conductor’s installation.
Therefore, the overall cost including Cable’s
installation reduces to 18%. The augmentation of circuits can be achieved by
installing parallel circuits on same poles, some of the distribution companies
have even shared with communication companies and use their poles for LVABC, installation. The effect of impedance is lower in ABC which also resulted
in carrying higher rating of current.
In Karachi, the humidity rate is always high due to Coastal winds which
directly affect the exposed conductors , where as in insulated ABC , the cable
have increased life of 25% than bare conductors’ maximum life.
