State Highway 30 (Sixth Avenue) Pedestrian Bridge Replacement https://www.codot.gov/projects/sh30atvaughn CDOT Project Lane Closure Report for the week of March 4 The Colorado Department of Transportation began work March 1 to replace the pedestrian walking bridge over State Highway 30 (Sixth Avenue) in Aurora, including the installation of new pedestrian curb ramps and sidewalk from Vaughn Street to Potomac Street. Project work began west of Interstate 225 on State Highway 30. Pedestrians should expect a bridge closure during improvements. Drivers should anticipate single‐lane road closures during work hours. Overnight work and full road closures are expected during certain milestones of this project. Construction work hours will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some weekend work anticipated. State Patrol will be utilized on this project to ensure safety of commuters. No height or width restrictions will be in place. Motorists need to be aware of possible traffic stops along the roadway. For project updates, please email sh30aurora@gmail.com or call the project hotline at 720-583‐8853. Coming up: A complete closure of SH-30/Sixth Avenue will take place from 9:30 p.m. March 13 to 5:30 a.m. March 14 as part of the pedestrian bridge replacement project. If the contractor is unable to complete the bridge demolition that night, the road will be closed again for the same hours the following night. Eastbound Sixth Avenue will be closed at Peoria Street. Westbound Sixth Avenue will be closed at Potomac Street. Xcel Energy work NEW! Xcel Energy began work March 2 on a new feeder installation on Centretech Parkway from Sixth Avenue to Airport Boulevard. Miscellaneous lane shifts will take place daily for at least one month, pending weather and any other unforeseen issues/delays. This information will be updated as the project progresses. In addition, Xcel Energy is replacing an underground electric cable to improve electric reliability and help prevent future power outages in the area where the work is being done. The project is taking place in the outer eastbound lane of East Hampden Avenue between East Jefferson Avenue to South Hampden Circle. There may be temporary sidewalk closures as work progresses. Please watch for roadway signs for temporary lane closure alerts. Crews will work from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, with some infrequent weekend work. Construction should be complete by the end of April. Widening of Arapahoe Road between Waco Street and Himalaya Way This is a city of Centennial project, but will affect many Aurora residents who use this road on a regular basis. The widening of Arapahoe Road between Waco Street and Himalaya Way began August 2015. This stretch of roadway will be reconstructed and widened from the existing two-lane section to an interim four-lane section while preparing the roadway for future six-lanes. Construction activities for March include but are not limited to: Filling and cutting areas on-site to bring elevation up (and down) for the new roadway Identifying and relocating utilities Installation of storm drainage and waterline utilities. In March, it is anticipated that the overhead power lines along Arapahoe Road from Chapparal East to Chapparal West will be removed. Once this is underway, a detour will be in place at Arapahoe Road and South Chapparal Circle East to the north. Barring unforeseen delays, construction of the box culvert at Antelope Creek is nearly complete which means a detour will be in place on the south side of Arapahoe Road so the northern portion can be constructed. Working hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or dawn to dusk Monday through Friday and Saturdays as needed. Lane closures and restrictions can be expected Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Some storm drainage installation will require driveway closures. Properties affected by these closures will be notified in advance to construction beginning in the area. This project is scheduled to be complete late summer 2016. Project partners are Arapahoe County, Southwest Metro Stormwater Authority, city of Aurora and ACWWA.
