SFEB Sustainability Spotlight
From the White House Blog:
To connect these local efforts with the broad goals in the President’s Executive Order
on Federal Leadership in Environmental, Energy and Economic Performance, we have
selected six teams to follow throughout the year to see what they can accomplish
when they work together. …
Seattle Federal Executive Board’s Business Case for Sustainability - Seattle, WA:
In 2013, the Board and supporting agencies will: develop a story submittal form to
make it easier for agencies to contribute business cases; aggregate regional financial
impact based on stories submitted, agency participation, consolidated savings, and
other data; determine best methods to publicize successes; and encourage nonparticipating Federal communities in the region to contribute. This effort will
demonstrate how FEBs can play an integral role in coordinating regionally located
Federal entities that are working towards shared Executive Order goals.
SFEB to FGC to Green Teams
Showcasing our Seattle leadership!
Acting, measuring and recognizing
accomplishments.
Building on our foundation by
engaging our people.
The foundation for our efforts.
SFEB leads on interconnected fronts!!
• SFEB Sustainability Spotlight (12 members committed)
o
The SFEB sustainability Spotlight leverages and highlights work happening under the FGC, through the
Green Teams or within the Seattle federal community to show our collective impacts..
• Federal Green Challenge (30 partners, many as part of Green Teams)
o
The Federal Green Challenge is a Federal Partnership that drives Federal Agencies to reduce their carbon
footprint by focusing on 2 of 6 areas. Energy, Purchasing, Waste, Water, Electronics and Transportation.
• Green Teams (8 Seattle Area Green Teams)
o The Green Teams support intra-building collaboration to achieve our EO goals.
o Green Teams can participate in the FGC as a group with specific agencies being recognized for their
contribution.
o Green Teams can collectively report.
In support of our Executive Order requirements,
We lead by example!

Staff Messaging
1. After a long day week at work, you may be looking forward to a weekend of rest
and relaxation. But before you step out of the office, please take the necessary
steps to make sure the energy bill gets a break tool! Remember to turn off
computers and lights, as well as unplug appliances.
2. Are you running late for that next meeting? Tired of waiting for the elevator?
Save energy and get exercise by taking the stairs!
3. Did you know that appliances that are not in use but are plugged in use electricity?
Take the time to unplug appropriate appliance to conserve energy. You are not
using them, so why waste energy?
4. Wish you could take advantage of the beautiful sunny day outside? You can! By
turning off the lights and sitting by the window instead, you save electricity and
benefit from good weather.
5. About to head to the conference room for a long meeting? Remember to put your
computer monitor in sleep mode! If possible, consider shutting down the
computer. A computer running, but not in use wastes energy.
