TOURO CLUB CHARTER: THE TOURO UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF OSTEOPATHIC
MEDICINE MEDICAL MATHEMATICS CLUB
ARTICLE ONE: CHAPTER GOALS
I.
The mission statement of TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS is to:
Provide information and assistance to Touro University students interested in medical
mathematics, biostatistics, radiology, signal processing and imaging as it relates to literature,
diagnostic imaging, case studies, examination and surgical skills, networking and the pursuit of
lifelong learning.
II.
Toward this mission statement, TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS shall strive to:
Integrate the pharmacy, public health and medical faculties that are interested in the application
of mathematics to health related research.
Provide information to Touro University Students regarding residency and practice in the
aforementioned medical fields.
Organize monthly meeting to discuss current research in medical mathematics.
Work with local institutions with similar interests to expand our knowledge base of medical
mathematics.
ARTICLE TWO: MEMBERS, OFFICES AND MEETINGS
MEMBERS: Membership in TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS is open to any full-time
student or faculty/staff at Touro University.
OFFICES: TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS will have a President and Vice-president and
a steering committee. The steering committee is comprised of a historian, a treasurer, a
communications officer and a research officer. With discretion, these positions may be updated
as TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS sees fit.
A. PRESIDENT: President duties include the following: Serving as the liaison between TOURO
MEDICAL MATHEMATICS and TOURO Students and Administration, ensuring accurate Club
records, including membership roster, monthly budget reports, and TOURO MEDICAL
MATHEMATICS events, and TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS Constitution; attending
the weekly Student Council meeting (or designating a representative in accordance with TOURO
SA regulations); and election procedures. With discretion, these responsibilities may be updated
as TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS sees fit.
B. VICE PRESIDENT: Vice-President duties include the following: Maintaining Club records-an accurate membership roster, monthly budget reports, TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS
events record (and reporting this record to SGA), coordinate and plan annual events and fund
raisers in relation to available funds. The Vice president will attend weekly student council
meetings and represent TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS when the president is unable to
attend. The Vice-president will assist the president in these and other activities.
C. Historian duties include the following: Maintaining accurate records of all TOURO
MEDICAL MATHEMATICS functions, activities, meetings and maintain copies of all
circulating documents. These records will be passed on to future TOURO MEDICAL
MATHEMATICS’ Historians.
D. Treasurer duties include overseeing the monthly budget report, fundraisers, financial aspects
of event planning and requesting funds from TOURO Administration.
E. Communications officer duties include communicating with the Northern California applied
mathematics community (UCSF, UC-Berkeley, UC-Davis), organizing guest lecturers and
searching for potential conferences and talks to attend. Additionally, their duties will include
sending out announcements and invitations to events and seminars.
F. Research officer duties include finding appropriate research articles for discussion during
TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS monthly meetings.
ARTICLE THREE: COMMITTEES
COMMITTEES: Membership on any committee shall be open to any TOURO MEDICAL
MATHEMATICS Club member. These committees will be formed and serve as directed by the
President and TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS, or by the respective field chair.
ARTICLE FOUR: DUES
DUES: At this time, no dues will be levied toward the members of TOURO MEDICAL
MATHEMATICS. Yet, if supported by the President and a simple majority vote by all TOURO
MEDICAL MATHEMATICS members, dues shall be collected on a one-time basis, subject to
review annually.
ARTICLE FIVE: VOTING AND ELECTIONS
VOTING: Voting within TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS will be limited to the lawful
members as specified in this Constitution. All matters shall be decided by a simple majority vote
of those present, provided that every attempt has been made to ensure the widest participation.
The president of TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS shall not be allowed to vote, except in
order to break a tie in voting.
ELECTIONS: Elections for all positions will be held on an annual basis, during the spring and
no later than a month prior to the last day of school, ideally coinciding with TOURO SA and
class elections.
REMOVAL: Any officer elected or appointed by TOURO MEDICAL MATHEMATICS may be
removed if dereliction of responsibilities and conduct unbecoming of the officer has been
objectively determined.
