This curriculum is based on the Master of Occupational Therapy program at UMMC School of Health-Related
Professions (www.umc.edu/shrp/). Incoming freshmen with an ACT Math sub score of 25 or higher will be
able to finish the pre-requisites at the Oxford campus in two academic years (2+3) with four full semesters
plus some summer coursework. Incoming freshmen with an ACT Math sub score below 25 will be able to
finish the pre-requisites on the Oxford campus in three academic years (3+3: see suggested first-year
curriculum on page 2). The second phase of the program takes place on the UMC campus in Jackson and
consists of 36 months (3 years) of lecture, laboratory, demonstration and clinical course work. Class size is
limited and acceptance into the program in Jackson, MS is on a competitive basis.

**Prerequisite MATH 121 and MATH 123, or MATH 125, or MATH 261.
***LIBA 101 is not required, but is a means to earn 16 Observation Hours. See more information below.
NOTE: Must have MATH 121 and 123 or MATH 125 to enroll in Physics 213 & 223.
Course Options and Information:
HUMANTIES AND FINE ARTS: include Music 103 or 105, Theatre 201, Dance 200, Art History 101-202, Modern
Languages, Philosophy, Religion, and History. Total of nine hours required. Three hours of Fine Arts
recommended.
SOCIAL and BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES: include Anthropology, Economics, Political Science, Psychology and Sociology.
ELECTIVES: (recommended) include Medical Terminology (ES 396), additional Psychology, and Trigonometry (MATH
123), and Science classes.
NOTE: Science survey courses designed for non-science majors are not acceptable for a required course except (BISC 206
& BISC 207 A&P I&II).
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS:
1. UMC School of Health-Related Professions gives strong preference to legal residents of Mississippi. Out-of-state
applicants will be considered only if there are positions available after all qualified Mississippi applicants are
accepted.
In addition to the admission standards of the institution and the general admission requirements of the School of Health
Related Professions, candidates seeking admission to the occupational therapy program, must:
2. Have completed a minimum of 72 semester hours of academic credit (exclusive of physical education, military
science, dogmatic religion and vocational courses) from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning;
3. Have a minimum overall cumulative grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale (a minimum grade of C is
required on each course accepted for transfer. If a course is repeated, both grades are used in calculating the
grade point average
4. Provide evidence of 16 observation hours in at least two occupational therapy clinical departments. Applicants
are advised to take LIBA 101 to help fulfill this prerequisite. Observation hours are required before making

5. Complete an interview with Occupational Therapy Admissions Committee.
6. Have written confirmation of completion of the Hepatitis B vaccination series or that the Hepatitis B vaccination
series has been started at the time of registration.
APPLYING to the MASTERS of OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY PROGRAM:
Applications are accepted online only and are available between July 1 and the application deadline in mid January each
year. All application documents, including completed observation forms, all transcripts and the non-refundable $25
application fee must be received by by Jan. 15. Early application submission is suggested! Competitive applicants will
have an interview with the Occupational Therapy Admissions Committee.
