To welcome new students to college life and acquaint them with Vanguard’s history, purposes, rules and regulations, personnel, services and resources. 2. To help students strengthen competence and learn independence in life skills such as goal setting, management of time, management of finances, information literacy, career planning and study skills. 3. To encourage and assist students in the integration of their personal faith and learning experiences including faith-building, intellectual and community service activities. 4. To introduce students to the Core Student Learning Outcomes of Vanguard University: a)integration of faith and learning, and life; b)cultural competency and citizenship; c) communication; d) critical thinking; e) holistic living; and f) formation and technology. Course Description Introduction to university life and learning to the academic/study skills needed for success. Required for all first time freshmen, the course is to be taken in conjunction with other first-year-level course allowing application of the content in the course sessions. Cornerstone Mission Foremost, to help prepare new freshmen students for academic success and to improve the educational experiences of firstyear students. As well, to help students understand the concept of a liberal arts education and the role of a Christian university in integrating faith and learning. The Cornerstone provides help with the transition and adjustment to university life, encouraging first-year student success and persistence toward graduation. You are expected to attend every session and any more than two absences will result in course failure. An attendance sheet will be distributed during each class session.
